After planning, impact studies, design fees and many trips around the US, Asia and Europe to see what others are doing. It should leave enough money to get a lean to and maybe a porti potty. But the sign telling us about our tax dollars at work will be really nice.
Post those pics of the river model please!! Also, has that cut on the west side of the river done anything like they expected?
As to Port Eads. Man it woul be nice if they woul dredge the harbor of debris, rebulkhead, put the walkways back around the docks. At least then you would have a place to tie up and bbq or sleep the night.
the river modeling laboratory out on river road behind the vet school. we have a scale model of the river from myrtle rove down that we use to study potential diversion sites' effectiveness. got some pictures of it that i can post if anyone is that interested.
shame about port eads. after thinking about it ya'll are probably right...15 mil will probably fish out the debris from the bottom and not much else.
I heard they're closing the diversion to build up marsh just below Venice on the right side above Main Pass. Any info on it?
The sediment has no time to settle out and "build land" and is just washed out into the gulf.
Would you happen to have a recent satellite shot of that area? The Google satellite shots are from 06'. We were fishing the upper bay up to a few years back but it's filled in so much now we can only get in on a very high tide, in some places it's 1 ft where it used to be 5. Commercial crabbers that have fished that area for 30+ yrs have had to move.
Why don't they rock the diversion to narrow it and reduce the current flow, like they did with Burrwood? The only place the diversion is building land seems to be the Pilottown anchorage. It's virtually useless for any ship with more than 20' of draft from the diversion all the way to the lower end of the anchorage. The best way to build land seems to be to quit dumping dredge spoils off Southwest Pass and pump them directly into West Bay.
