Anybody been offshore lately? Supposed to finally get my boat back this week. Going to try to head out friday or saturday or both. Probably going to the horseshoe area. Just curious if anybody has been out and caught anything. It looks like the bluewater is pushing in good, especially to the east.
Mike.. we slammed the cobia a few weeks back..... tuna were no where to be
found.... but reports trickling in of schools of nice 50-80's around...just have to
be in the right place at the right time.....of course the AJ's are abundant.....
Slammed the trout at the Breton Sound rigs this past friday as well......
Thanks for the info. guys. I almost don't even care if we catch a thing. It will just be nice to finally get out on the water, something tugging on the line will just be icing on the cake
Blue...hopefully this will be the year that I make it to the Ram. Still need to christen the boat with tuna blood!!..
Made a couple trips south of the RP in the last 2 weeks or so out of Pascagoula. Was fortunate to grab several yft/skipjacks and some of the biggest blackfin I've seen in a long time. Really wanted Dolphin/Wahoo and Marlin but struck out each time. Hopefully they will show up out east in good numbers soon. Did see a huge Marlin coralling bait in relatively shallow waters but she wasn't really interested in our offerings. Good luck in your pursuit!
i'm gonna sneak out tomorrow...likely against my better judgement
friday looks like a better day but this damn job of mine keeps getting in the way
heading south tonite, will report back thur nite
slacker pete has been bugging me to get him a snapper on his fly rod, so we'll see...
went down to venice wed evening, kept getting passed my one after another of donzis, fountains and contenders, from out of state. thought that was odd...
venice marina was hopping...guess where all the go-fast boats were going? ska event...man, i have never seen so many outboard motors in one place in my life! every boat had at least two, most had three. i took a couple of pix of the fuel dock on thursday afternoon...i bet venice marina was happy, happy!
anyway, that was pretty cool, saw two of the 34 yellowfin CC's, also saw a contender named "rag-tag"- is that the THT'er?
had to wait out the ugly, ugly weather thur morning, got out running behind the storm about 10am, fished till 2pm. total take was four nice mangrove, one 30" grouper, and a suicide red snapper. culled thru dozens of redfish, baby snapper & jacks. no cobia sighted (AGAIN). the seas were a bit "sporty", as they say, kinda like beating your way thru a sheetrock wall with a hammer
Left late this friday out of Mary Walker. Caught 5 very nice yellowfin( one pushing the century mark) in the Ram Powell area and usual blackfin on pogeys. Some Mahi caught on a nice weedline due north of 265. Spent several hours running and a quite a bit of fuel looking for Wahoo but struck out once again. 2 hookups on pink 30's caused excitment at first but later dissapointed with one barracuda and one king going close to 50 pounds. No blue suit either. Just about had enough of Tuna fishing for a while. If anyone can pass on Wahoo/Marlin tactics and good locations to try would surely be appreciated. Have range to run up to 140 miles one way and troll for 7-8 hours while keeping more than adequate reserve. Good fishing and calm seas to all.
