Default Boggy Point Boat Ramp

Is it OK to leave my truck & trailer there overnight?

Sure, I've left my truck there several times with no problems. In my opinion, it's much better than cotton bayou. It's more secluded and much closer to the pass.

Not a 100% guarantee, but police patrol those roads fairly often, so that should help deter anyone from breaking in. We keep our boat at Romar Marina, and I see local police on that road regularly at all hours.

Check with Bamaboy, I think he lives really close to there and may let you keep it at his house for a small fee.

It's a State launch site and their rules are clear that NO vehicles attached to boats on trailers are allowed overnight. Towing is the cure. Lucky thing is that they are rarely over there to enforce things, so you take your chances with a better than 50/50 chance of getting away with it.

Bad news is that its a $250 towing charge if somebody decides to bust you... they don't want the liability and don't want homeless people parking down there.

Just got back from Boggy Point, I read the rules and determined that no where did it say "no overnight parking". They talk about camping, storage, abandoned boats, drinking alcohol, fires, and ATV's but nothing about overnight parking of a boat trailer & tow vechile.

So I went ahead and left my truck and trailer, came back and there it would have been hard for them to have singled me out to tow for all the cars parked in the no parking zones and cars without trailers parked in front & back of me, not to mention various other rules being broken that would have been easier to enforce. I did notice that they do write warnings as the car that had parked behind me had a orange warning on it's window.

Since after a couple of nights parked in the same place, I did not receive a warning I have to assume that I interperted the rules correctly or it is a rule they simply do not enforce. Like the ATV's & beer drinking.

Glad I pulled out early this morning, as I am sure it was a zoo this afternoon.

Thanks for the input.

My response was about them possibly towing if a boat is left overnight on a trailer. You can leave a boatless trailer/truck there without a problem, since fishing is where you're assumed to be if the boat's gone. If the boat's on the trailer, take care.

Glad you had a good time; there's about 1/3 of the vehicles and boats as yesterday.

You definitely live in the thick of things down there. I guess it is only a few big weekends that you have to deal with that size crowd. The Temporary Police Order signs seemed to be working wellfor you and your neighbors. I was amazed by the large number of cars without trailers that just seemed to park where ever they pleased, it would have been very tight moving my trailer on Saturday afternoon. I am sure there were a few that got bumped.

Thanks.

We residents have differences of opinions about those temporary signs because they are toothless tigers and the PD isn't going to ticket or tow because of it. (for instance, notice that there's no distance specified that you can't park from the sign; nor is there a penalty listed).

We're trying to get the City to build another boat launch and parking lot on City property near Sportsmans Marina. If that gets done, then we can put up permanent No Parking signs and enforce them.

Until then, its hard to tell people that they can't park anywhere near the launch site, and there's only legal space for 5 cars and 33 truck/trailers at Boggy Point. In the summer, all legal spaces are usually taken by 11AM.

Is the boat ramp that was proposed for Ole River a dead issue?

... priceless!

Maybe you can get you a lawn chair and a shotgun and just shoot anyone that comes over the bridge!! Maybe that'll keep those pesky humans off YOUR island!
