Default Pass A Loutre

Can you travel through Pass A Loutre (safely) with a 26' Glacier Bay. I tried to come in the north channel the other day and it appeared to be blocked by a sand bar.

Thanks

Last year I ran my new 295 Whaler aground in soft mud. The "channel" was extremely hard to follow and I will probably never go out that way again. We were somewhere about halfway out. Watching my sounder, the deep water kept moving back and forth across the pass. All at once, we were in less than 2' of water! Got lucky and powered her off. Don't recommend it. Bill

I had wanted to run outta Pass a Loutre in a SKA event in 2001,talked to the local shrimp boat captains and evry one told me not to do it,a 27 Contender tried anyway and he spent the night and had to get a crew boat to pull him out of the mud the next day.

Pass a Loutre is a b***** once you get past SE Pass. If you really want to go out that way, your best bet would be Flatboat pass to the N.(access to river near Main, Octave, Rapheal) Not much of a pass but it stays deeper than 4' and no shoals that are not obvious. I have run a 35' Bertram through there several times on a high tide, At times, the boat was almost as wide as the pass and despite the look on the face of my guests, we had no problem at all.

the other option is to run Pass A Loutre to SE Pass down SE Pass till you come to a fork and take left, this becomes NE Pass, NE takes you to the gulf.

There are many shallow areas in Pass A Loutre, I know because I probably found them all in my flat during duck season, so I would have someone show you on the map the proper path. If anyone finds their way down here and needs directions through the trickier passes I'd be glad to show you on a map, just shoot me an email.
