Default Fourchon overnighter options

doing some planning / dreaming about future overnighters out of fourchon. Want to catch some yf. What are my options 50-80 miles out? not trying to target monsters...just some good chances at catching yellowfin. What do you guys take on these trips....how do you prepare for them? boat is a 266 sailfish...hold 185 gallons and can get easily 2mpg loaded.

I'm not 100% sure, but I think you will need to do more like 100 miles (one way) to fish a couple of floaters.

lilsam,
what kind of boat do you have or what kind of fuel burn numbers are you getting? i dont see anyway we would burn that much but i would say i wouldnt go farther than 80-90 without some more fuel. Im very conservative when i say we will get 2 mpg.

Brutus is 92 miles from Belle Pass. Might as well call it 100 by the time you travel from the launch. Bullwinkle is about 80 or so.

If you're going to make the trip out you might as well be prepared. I would get at least 50lbs of pogey's for chum to begin with. Bring plenty of diamond jigs to catch blackfin with to use for chum also. Try to catch some small hardtails on the way out to the fishing grounds, the smaller the better. They are easier to catch during the day, can be very finicky at night. Make sure you have plenty of tackle also, I like the demon circle hooks for live baiting/chumming. Get a good spinning reel outfit spooled with 80-100 pound braid for throwing poppers. Bring at least two gaffs. Load the boat down with ice. Bring some shaky baits. Butterfly jigs. bean bags. Be prepared to fish hard. Try everything until you find what they want. Try the upcurrent side. Stay up all night until the fish turn on. Sometimes they never do turn on. Sometimes it seems so easy and sometimes you really have to fish all night for a few fish. Good luck

From the looks of his pic he is running with Chris Moran on that 34 Venture. Or his 34 gravois. Awesome fish in those pics btw
