The fishing in Venice remains red hot! The tuna are thick and hungry but unfortunately far offshore and the wahoo bite remains strong if you are lucky enough to get to them first. This past Thursday Kevin Beach and I took Heath Tabor and crew out to the canyon and the action was fast and furious. The results were 4 yellowfin with the largest at 138# and 5 dolphin to 30#.
All fish were caught on live hardtails. I didn't fish the next day but Capt. Kevin decided to cash in on the hot wahoo bite so out to the lump he went.

He said it was fast and furious and that they were sucking down stretches of any color. Sunday and Monday were both supposed to be 5-10 knots and 1-2 ft seas but we all know how that turns out this time of year, more like 15-20 and 3-5. The plan was to head to the canyon both days and the weather short stopped me both days. Although the fishing wasn't what it would have been in the canyon we still managed a handful of yellowfin each day. Tuesday Kevin and decided it was time to try to catch a daytime swordfish and once again the weather changed our plans. We decided that trying to stay on top of a bait 2000 feet down with 4-6 ft seas and 20 knots of wind would be tough so we went grouper fishing instead.

This one went 96 pounds and the one that broke me off on the drop before that probably could have eaten that one. Oh well not a bad consolation prize. We also had a handful of snowies and yellowedge as well. I believe we stopped at 9 grouper, it was plenty enough for the four of us on the boat and I always like to leave some for seed.

There are plenty of fish out there right now just not in the places we've become accustomed to catching them but if you get the weather and know where to look they are ready and willing.
