What type of fish are you trying to target?
Depending on that question you will find different seasons/temps/etc will determine
what type of fish that you will catch. Also which part of the Bay are you asking about.
You will find more species of fish near the mouth of the Gulf during the summer.
If you were to find a decent day with very light winds, you could catch large white trout,
black drum, redfish around the gas rigs near Dauphin Island. The problem is catching the
weather where there is very little wind. Otherwise most of us are fishing in the rivers,
that run into the Bay. Now when the dogwoods start to bloom, and not when we have
had this crazy weather which is finally changing the sheepshead spawn run will begin in
the Bay. When you start getting to the middle end of March you will find the specks will
begin to migrate out of the rivers & Bayou's and you can catch them in the Bays.
When you finally get towards summer, spanish mackerel, tarpon, skipjack, blue fish and
everything else I mentioned will move into the Bay, and beaches.
I forgot to mention flounders as well. I didn't mention sharks, catfish and a multitude of
other fish as well.
I would suggest you check out the ACFA forum. Alabama Coastal fishing association.
Its an inshore club, that has a great deal of information.
