Default Need Temp Slip in Venice

Ok guys i need your help. The South Texas Big Game Fishing Club Tourny if over for this year. Last fall, with previous Captain, the owner didnt fish at all during the fall. Well this year we metioned to the owner about coming back and fishing more and metioned about taking the boat to Venice instead of Cancun, which he had mentioned earlier in the year. He wasnt to excited about taking the boat to Cancun now but liked the idea of Yellowfin out of Venice.
So my question is where can i find a good slip in Venice with Diesel? Is Venice Marina our best bet? The boat is a 42' Riviera and we may be there for a weekend or could be a month. Not sure yet. Also are the channels that show up on Google Earth, running West and South from Venice Marina navigable for a boat this size? Me and the Captain will be taking the boat over and the owner will be flying into N.O. About how long is the drive from N.O. Airport to Venice?
Thanks for any advice.

Not a big Venice fisherman, but the only other Marina I know of down there is Cypress Cove. It's used to be a little nicer than Venice Marina, but since Katrina I couldn't tell you. Link: http://www.rodnreel.com/cypresscove/html/marina.html Venice and Cypress Cove are less than .25 miles from each other by boat.

The jump (the east-west passage from Vencie and Cypress Cove Marinas to the Miss. River) is navigable by MUCH larger boats than what you've got there so no worries on that account. Two basic ways to get to the Gulf from either marina. The river passes or Tiger pass. and all should be fine for that boat but check on Tiger pass before you travel it and see if bouys, markers are up since Gustov-Ike. Southwest pass is the largest and SW and South pass are both very easy to navigate. Never been thru East pass, but I hear it can get shallow sometimes.

Probably at least a 2 hour ride from the NO airport to Venice.

If you can't get a slip in Venice, Grand Isle is good too. Especially if you're going to be fishing the West Delta area. If fishing east of the Miss river delta, then Venice is definitely your best bet. Link: http://www.grand-isle.com/

good luck

Cypress Cove or Venice Marina--pay for a couple of days at each and figure out which one you like best. They are basically right next to each other. I'm hearing that a lot of boats from Texas are starting to show up in Venice because of the damage to the Houston marinas this year.

our boat is at Venice Marine, stayed through the storm. They are reopened and have fuel, food and bait. I was at Cypress a week ago and there was 1 boat in the water, restaurant and motel were still being repaired. 96 miles from the airport to Venice, takes me an hour and a half.

Go with Venice Marina, Cypress Cove has crappy ice.

I second (or third) Venice Marina. While Cypress Cove had a nice lodge, I was not impressed with how the manager treated fishermen. Venice Marina folks have been great to us when we spend a week in a slip. They have ice, bait, fuel, and nice folks. We were slipped next to a gorgeous Cabo from Tampa last time we were over, and they were also pleased with their treatment. Other services are tough in Venice, and Grand Isle has more to offer in terms of restaurants and other services. GI is the same distance to the Lump, but all in open water versus the passes in Venice.

Grand Isle is still not back to normal from Gustav/ Ike. Venice is definitely the better bet.

Thanks guys for the help. Ill pass along the information to the Captain. We may be drving over there one weekend to take a look around and maybe do some fishing if we decide to drag the bay boat along with us.
Thanks again

Tiger Pass is a little shallow now. One spot between the rocks was 4 ft. last weekend. A small workboat really churned up the mud through there. I'll throw my vote out for Venice Marina too.
