i'm in lafayette, with a house in cocodrie. there's going to be plenty of work here for the next 6 months or so. damage is extensive in terrebonne, lafourche and other coastal parishes. baton rouge was hit very hard with extensive wind damage. along the coast, there will be plenty of work in the fishing communities -- camps and homes. it's hard to get local contractors to work in those areas. there are not enough of them. but, they may not have power in the coastal parishes for a month. no water, power, natural gas. stores and gas stations are not in working order. the national news media is not covering the damage -- they all left when the winds quit blowing and when it was obvious that new orleans was not going to flood again. good luck. come help if you can.

just be sure to get fully licensed, as folks are being warned about the problems that happened after Katrina. Baton Rouge looks like a widespread tornado in many respects. If you can do roofing work or tree removal and clean-up there will be work for 6 months at least. Your folks will need to rough it for a while as there is very limited utilities in the area. Some portions of BR will be 3 weeks more without power. I would expect that next week fresh food should start showing up in the stores, right now everything in a store is limited selection of canned goods.

There are certinaly folks that can use the help.

Dupre,

Where did you see pics of GI? I have a camp lot there that I'm not worried about, but my cousin who is staying with me since Friday last week, lives there and he is going nuts trying to get info. Also have some buds who have a camp there and they're pretty anxious too. They're all taking about going down there on Saturday, (from here in BR) but I've put way too many miles on my butt in the last 10 days to go down myself. If they go, I'll give them my camera to take some pics and I will try to post them here.

Here in BR... lots of tree / stump removal work available along with roof and house damage caused by trees falling into houses. Personally, I dd not lose one tree, but that's probably because all the week ones were weeded out by Katrina and the tornado? we had here in May. Lost a couple in Katrina and 5 more back in May.
