Default Mississippi River closed to Gulf

This should make things interesting for the Faux Pas this weekend. Gonna be a boat show west of the river now.

Apparently the ships are all stacked outside of southwest pass. That would be quite a sight to see.

A 12 mile stretch of River is closed just below New Orleans. That's what the paper said yesterday. That won't effect any fishing grounds or limit any offshore activity.

edit: It will pile the ships up offshore as already mentioned.

Check out the TP article on Nola.com.

97 miles of the river closed to traffic as of this morning. I can smell the spill outside of work (Elmwood) and my house (Uptown).

my old man's at the camp in venice right now, and said the only pass you can get into the gulf from venice marina is taunte phine or red pass, it's gonna be a zoo out to the west tomorrow. Also he said they shut off the water intake valves to the parish and he is not sure how long they will have running water. On the bright side they caught a quick limit of reds in the ponds off red pass this morning and they have 2 fat 26.5"ers and 2 25.5"ers for the live redfish category of the rodeo. They won the live red category last year, and it looks like they're off to a good start again this year. They were supposed to go bottom fishing tomorrow, but between the tarpon and faux pas, if they can't go east their just gonna stay inshore and try to stay away from the crowd.
