Fishing south of Ship and Horn islands - The Hull Truth

Went out Saturday to fish the first half of the day. I was trying to hit the "Fish Havens" that are on the GPS. I marked some structure on the bottom, but as is the case everywhere right now...the water was not very clear. We were hoping to catch something different...maybe a mangrove or some jacks or something. But we ended up with sharks. Actually caught two sand tiger sharks (and released them) about 5' long. Never seen one before. We trolled from ship to horn and saw about 10-12 charter boats circling on some birds...we passed by, but didn't get anything there. Went to FH3 over where the Liberty A and B boats used to be. LOTS of sharks there too. Big blacktips and another tiger.

I was hoping that there would be something lurking around these closer in FH's, but I guess not. Suppose we should have made a run to the marsh as my buddies cleaned up on the specks...

Anyone ever really had any luck at these closer in reefs? Is there ever anything there? WE only saw one other boat on the one 3 miles south of ship and they didn't hit anything.

Oh and we saw a big sea turtle. That is the second one I have seen out there.

a little to the east fh1 and 2 are holding legal snappers.,and good specks and reds....the spots on your gps were probally moved or covered up by katrina unless its a newer gps......there have been new reefs deployed since 2006 and some in 2007.....you just have to weed through them to get some keepers......venture south east to the 13 and limit out in a few drops with 20+ inchers.......(snappers)...if you need some of the latest published #,s pm me and ill shoot them to you.
