Any eastern shore (Daphne,Fairhope) 19-24' center console owners around? I have a 21 on the way and would like to pick your brain on where and how far you run. I used to run out of P-cola pass to the edge and such, on an 18', years ago but I find myself in Daphne now with a lil bigger boat and alot more range. So where do you launch/trailer to? I have been looking at either trailoring to gulf shores or launching in fairhope. Also, do the rigs off of DI hold hard tails? Got a hundred more questions so pm me if you like, Thanks, Roop
Fort Morgan seems to be a long haul as I live near I-10. I will have to drive out there and check it out. As far as targets, it depends on what I decide to do the day I am fishing. I like hardtails for slow trolling on downriggers for kings. I also like to put out live baits on top when I am anchored up and chumming. Is there a place on the Eastern shore to buy frozen northern mackeral? Roop
Most all of the rigs off DI hold hard tails right now, if you dont want to put in at Fort Morgan your only other 2 choice are drive to DI or put in on the causway and motor down the bay (but thats way to much gas for me) or you can put in at Cotton Bayou in Orange Beach and head over to the nipple and elbow, its really not that far from there.
Fort Morgan might be a little bit of a drive, but if you are headed south or west thats your best bet.
Put in at weeks bay or mullet point, from Daphne you'll burn more gas pulling a boat to DI, orange beach etc... than it would cost to run your but from these two places IMO. The drive from bouth those launches arent that far from the mouth of the bay.
I put in at weeks bay all the time and run out to the ram powell, petronius, Steps, Spur ect. From weeks bay to the ram is about 100 miles and spur is about 90 ish. I am running a 26 regulator with 230 gallons of fuel.
Weeks Bay is a much better launch, the mullet point one is pretty crappy and shallow. Its been a while since i used it last, I remember it it was real narrow too and when the Bay got rough it was quite the b!tch to get your boat in/out.
Weeks bay looks good. I will have to check it out. I guess it all depends on the days plans. If I plan to go deep I will need to trailor to a ramp close to the gulf. If I plan to stay somewhat near shore, I can launch closer to home. I running a 300 HPDI and 130 gal fuel tank. I figure I have a couple hundred mile range atleast, round trip. So if I can pick my days, I can run to the deep rigs. Thanks
They are putting in restrooms consession stands
One thing to watch is a northeast wind it can make the ride from Fort M. to weeks bay a long one.
I've been useing Weeks bay for 3 years it's one of the best launchs you don;t have to worry about wind or current. also it did have a lot of parking. fort m. is a long way by road 58 miles from Summerdale. I hope you enjoy your new boat.
Just ran down to Weeks bay. There was'nt any construction going on. Looked like what ever they were doing, they wrapped it up. Its about a 45 min drive for me. 25 miles.
I trailer from Fairhope to Bogy Point (Perdido Pass) and launch there. Great launch with lots of parking. Usually about a 55 minute trip to the launch and 10 minutes from there to the Gulf. Like that way as I pass the "Double the Ice" vending machine on 59 ($1.50 for 20# of ice) and J&M Tackle for last minute stop for frozen bait.
Canuck........I am not sure of thier hours or what time you go by it, but Brunson net on 98 near foley has bait as well. I think they are cheaper. They had cigs, squid and pogies. He said they get northern mackeral some times as well.
if you are gonna fish the deep rigs, launch in Orange Beach, this should save you about 25 miles round trip, as opposed to Weeks Bay
I am not at all trying to bash, just want to get the facts right, so please, please don't take this as a bash. Weeks Bay Launch is closer to the rigs than Orange Beach(this isn't including the car fuel you would burn driving to OB). The majority of the rigs are off Dauphin Island and west of there. Take a look at the rig map:
Again I am not bashing, I just would hate for someone go all they way to OB put in then head all that way back west to fish the rigs. Google earth, use your plot charter GPS & you will see.
And before you start saying I have some kind of bias against OB my boat happens to be hanging on my pier@ on St. Johns bay on OB. Remember this isnt a bash.
That being said, I just need to find somebody with a simular boat that
A-fishes during the week
B-wants to run to the rigs every now and then
(running a single engine boat, its nce to have another boat along in case of whatever)

I was mainly speaking of the deepwater rigs(floaters), Petronius, Ram Powell, Beer Can, Marlin, Morn Mountain, Thunderhorse, etc. in this general area,
They are all about the same distance from Perdido Pass in OB as they are from the Mouth of Mobile Bay, this would save you the 14 mile run from weeks bay to the Mouth both ways,
I could be wrong but when you run that far, the distances are about the same
If you are fishing the rigs right off the coast , its a shorter run from Weeks Bay
If you leave Perdido Pass with a heading of about 240 degrees, you will hit rigs in about 18-20 miles
