Default orange beach 14-21

Went out orange beach 15th, got on snapper 1st stop 30 miles south of perdido pass. Nothing real big so pointed the boat SE to yellow rock. All we could find where red snapper on nautral bottom. We just trolled and looked for rocks. By 1:00 p.m. we had 8 different spots all full of red snapper. No grouper, trigger,b-liners just red snapper. Put on a 16oz weight dropped a 2lb mullet on a rock and before it hit bottom 20'' red snapper. I love red snapper but when your trying to catch something different its very troublesome. Headed in around 3:00 p.m. with a nasty N wind. Went out 17th around 3:00 a.m. and pointed the boat S.W. to some deep rigs. Caught a limit of red snapper before daylight so we started looking for b-liners and such when a nice 8ft. hammerhead showed up and gave use a nice look at him. I thinking 350lb-400lb in that range I really cant judge weight that good never the less he or she was huge. Made a cast at it with cigar on 80lb kevlar and did not hook up. When the shark left my cousin caught a 30lb amberjack. Come early that day around 2:00p.m. with nice mess of fish. On the 19th we had some no shows so my cousin and I left for the elbow to troll. Headed towards the yellow rocks first pick up some snapper and try for grouper. They were both there! In a 165ft of water my garmin 3210 red and yellow from top to bottom. 4 nice snapper and 2 nice gags. We fished a little more for grouper and did not catch anymore so headed towars the elbow. High speed trolled to the drop around 15kt when wack 175lb wire was cut off on a 22oz islander (purple and black w/squid teaser). That was a $35.00 bite and still don't know what it was. Trolled grass line N of elbow 25lb dolphin and 3 more 8lb-12lb range. I think we all had a pretty good week of fishing. One of the best things of the trip was while I was catching bait at the dock I saw mangroves lurking. I quickly got my spinning rod with 8lb test and a 2/0 circle hook. I manage to catch 1 in about 3 hours boy there smart.

Hey Loadadup - give me some numbers where those troublesome red snappers are and I'll help get some of them out of your way.

I bet you would. Its just with 2 people on the boat it gets frustrating reeling in those snappers when you can't keep them. I'm no biologist but I think there is a shortage of reef fish other than red snapper. I have never seen as many red snappers in my life out there.

There are plenty of Snapper out there, problem is that now everything else is getting hard to catch b/c no one (charters) is targeting just snapper anymore,

The amberjack and grouper have been few and far between this summer
