I would like to,but I have a ton of yard work.Had a tree that fell in the yard.Last time a branch broke off it,it took a hold day to cut it up.The branch had 77 rings. One old @ss tree.Dam thing just missed my sportsfishing boat, but took out a trailer and a pirgue. If the weather is good tomorrow,I plan to go play with the family out on Old River.A little knee boarding, sking and check out the babes.
Prock, we dodged storms all day. Playing with fire all day, we finally met the storm of the century 10 miles from S pass.
Oh well, I finally did this favor trip and lived to tell about it.
On to the catching, while dodging storms in the morn, we caught our AJ's on the only 4 hardtails I could find. Had a storm come up to the east where I wanted to go so I pushed S to Elf, we crossed some scattered grass where we sight casted 5 cows/ bulls on poppers and small live mullets. Deployed mullets at Elf and had a quick bite that broke off almost as soon as I came tight. After that it was slow until we jumped a good size white on one of the mullets. 3 jumps and 30 sec greyhound made for quite a show...not a bite after that.
Decided to head in seeing a storm trying to cut us off from the pass. We ran about ten miles in when the radar lit up, the clouds loomed, and the lightning flashed. Lets just say I kissed the ground and the boat when we arrived at the dock. IT WAS NASTY.

Heavy winds also, or just tons of lightning and rain?
We put a hurtin' on tuna on Friday out of Grand Isle
Mako, the kind of wind that takes a 9k lb boat and do its best to turn it into an airplane......between the T-top and cat tunnel, I know for a fact that we were held up coming off waves and for no reason other than a gust of wind, the props were spinning out of the water. By far the craziest feeling I've had on a boat.
I've worn my life vest exactly three times since I was a kid and didn't HAVE to put it on. (Maybe that's a bad thing???) Each were in circumstances that I thought there was a chance we could go down. I was wearing hunter orange yesterday for close to 2.5 hours......
If I had to guess, the first 1/4 mile of that storm had 60knt winds with the wind blowing 25-35knts the rest of the 10 miles we rode through it. I guess since it was so calm before the storm that there wasn't enough time for the seas to REALLY build as the biggest wave I saw was maybe 7'. Add the lightning though and you've got a recipe for disaster. I couldn't shake the, "what if we lost power," feeling.

How'd the tournament go? Heard a few stories from Andre's crew, but didn't get any details. Ya'll place any fish?
We got 1st and 3rd on the tuna and 3rd on snapper--no big fish, but we took down 'dre at his own game We had some good laughs. We caught 4 yft, 5 dolphin, a skipjack, a rainbow and an assortment of bottom dwellers. Great trip and a GREAT time at the tournament. It's an awesome deal with good eats and drinks and a non-competitive atmosphere. Bruni was lucky to get home after being adrift in Green Canyon with no radio, gps or engines

Sounds scary--anything you would do differently next time that you can share? I've been caught before, and it always seems to be more of a lightening issue than a wind issue.
Mako, I sure wouldn't think I could outsmart the weatherman again. I knew the forecast going out and dodged storms all day but when I left that evening, with all the rain in the city, there was none in the gulf, so I played the game Sun morning. I thought we played it just right until we had to head in.
When we left, I saw the storm brewing and put everything away quickly. BY the time I pulled it up on radar to make a decision, it was hopeless, we had to run through it, it got BIG, BIG, BIG.
Been there done that with a 20 mile run in thru T-storms.Talk about 4 guys praying to God.I'm talking with strikes that has raised hair on your head.Best thing is to lay down all rods, drop VHF anntena's and if you have two VHF's,disconnect one of them all together. That is a just in case of a hit.If you can,run in on compass and shut down everything else unless its to the point that you can't see, keep the radar on.
7th annual Louisiana Dental Assoc. Tournament. only 110 registered----it's not like I accomplished a big feat. I really just won bragging rights with my peers(and a nice Okuma reel)
Looks like I wan't the only one out there that evening. Here's an excerpt from Rodnreel.com, Capt Josh Howard,
"Sunday started out with a small storm. Before the rain we started for mars but after the delay we stopped at lena. Pretty much dead there. we were able to find decent grass and make bait but didnt pick up any big dolphin. I figured we had already lost enough time so I tried our luck at elf again. The current was still swift but the water was a bit more clear. I could see a few fish busting so we set up a drift with no luck. We put out the spread and landed several nice dolphin,(some taken by angry poppers) a couple yellowfin, blackfin and skipjack. Another storm started to blow in so we headed for south pass making a stop by the can at 109 where we landed two nice cows and pulled the hook on a very nice bull! I looked up and the storm was on top of us in a matter of minutes and what a storm. It must have had 60 mph gusts for a while. We rode this one out at 109 for about 30 minutes then headed back in. The water stayed blue til about 6 miles out of the pass."
