Default Biloxi 6/30

Stayed within 35 miles of Biloxi today due to a later than expected start since my crew that drove in from Jackson overslept and then had to TRY to get a license for one of them at Walmart this AM. I'll say this, I had no problem ordering my '07-08 yesterday afternoon, but it seems that the entire MDWFP system went down for maintenance from 8 last night to at least 2PM today. The guy that didn't have a license was trying to call off and on all day.
Anyway, got a late start and fished our first rig. Bam! First drop and one of the fellas got beat down like he stole something by a fish that ran into the rig. I grabbed another rod that was already rigged up and handed it to him and the bait didn't even make it down 15' before he was bowed up again. He was able to keep this one out of the rig and up comes a Cobia of about 30#. Unfortunately, my ragging of Boomer's gaffing abilities has put a hex on me and I missed the first shot or two I had at the fish, but I got him on the third try. Not much else happening here and the 5 or so shrimp boats near us were starting to anchor up for the day so we broke loose and headed towards the shrimpers.
First boat was covered in Bonita and the first 4 or 5 casts resulted in Bonita in the 10# class. Just as I was about to give up on this boat and move on, we were able to procure some NIIICCCEEE shrimp from the boat on a little bartering action. As I backed away from the boat, we saw a lone Cobia that just happened to swim out from under the stern and followed a freelined Cigar Minnow. "It's on like a chicken bone!" Another 25-30# Cobia in the box to go along with a nice sack of shrimp.
Action here dies so we move on to another boat. more Bonitas and a large Jack Crevalle along with a UFO that couldn't be stopped that broke off after about a methodical 75 yard run.
Same story at the next few boats, with the exception of some Kings. More Bonita and 2 more UFOs that made strong steady runs that we just couldn't turn. I'm guessing some large sharks that were hooked just right in the corner of their mouths?
Anyway, finished with a bunch of Bonitas(released), 1 Jack(released), 2 Kings(kept), 2 Cobia(kept) and a nice sack of shrimp.
