Re: Fishing Destin Most of the charters are more tuned to the bottom dwellers of the gulf especially red snapper. The snapper is definately "king" of the area with some good grouper/ trigger/ and A.J's as well. The area has some great pelagic fishing with sails and marlin definately in the spread as well this time of year along with wahoo and plenty of dorado if the boat is into running 50 to 80 miles to get into the canyon. near shore trolling trips can be a hoot if 10 to 40 a day kings are up your ally. I am learning my way around the well offshore stuff slowly with a few tuna, dorado, and my first sail (last summer) with a knockdown on a "huge" wahoo that went airborne as he hit my bait this past may. I only get the opprotunity to drag my boat down there a few times a year but every time I go I'm getting better. If the seas are calm though their isn't a summer day I can't go out and knock down at least a few decent kings VERY near shore. The guide/captain that taught me the nearshore king thing was "flat out charters" It was reasonable enough my father in law and I went out for a day with him and didn't look for the hole share a ride thing. We'd been out on the share a ride boats before and got tired of fishing for 5# snapper on 150# line so we opted for something different. 10 years and 3 boats later I understand what the 150# line is for when bottom fishing LOL! Look up half hitch tackle .com or something close and there web sight will refer you to all the charter captain boats in the area and there web sight breaks down what species the boats go after. Call a few of them for rates and availability on your desired target to make your choice! Good luck! |
