Default Need some help from you Orange Beach guys

Pulling our 31 contender down to Orange Beach Friday for a week and some change vacation. Just trying to get an idea of a good direction to head. Are there any fathom curves that usually hold good rips or good areas to look for rips? Should I head to Ram Powell and the rigs...fish bottom contour...reef fish? I would imagine the live pinfish are pretty easy to come by in the marinas for bottom fishing. Any inforamtion would be appreciated. Thanks in advance

If you have a good cast net there is usually plenty of bait outside the west jetty. I use a 10' 1/2" 1.5 lb. Would probably go with a 8 ft next time I buy. Do not get near the rocks or you will loose it. Usually one good cast will get me all I need. Also may get some cigars at the bouy with a small sabaki rig. I haven't tried a pin fish trap but I'm sure it would work.

Go to Alabama DNR website, saltwater fishing and there are public spots published as well as fishing lincenses. PM your email and I will send a spreadsheet sorted by distance from OB. Better hurry I'm leaving for there in the AM.

Nipple and elbow on the 100 ft line have been good for wahoo, whites and dolphin. They are about 45 staute miles out. Maybe troll to the spur from there. Stop by J&M Tackle on canal road for tips, gear and a map. It is about a mile before the intersection that heads toward the beach. Also top gun Tackle by Winn Dixie can help out.

Blue crab can be readily caught with traps in 6+ ft of water.

The rigs west usally hold king, spanish and bottom fish. Just head WSW from OB and look for them. Head back through Mobile Bay, watch out for Dixie Bar to the east. Follow the ICW to Wolf Bay. Fuel up at Lulu's then stop at Pirate's Cove for a cheese burger and drinks. Shirt and shoes not required. Dogs allowed. 30 19.3 N 87 32.0 S is the location based on my t-shirt I got there. Between red bouy 58 and 60.

Most importantly, don't tell anybody where you are from..............

Head out of Perdido Pass..190 degree about sixty miles out choose either Petronious (deepest fixed leg rig) or one of the three floaters (Neptune aka Beer Can, Marlin or Ram Powell) The Ram is approx 76 miles out The water has been beautiful... look for the rip/sargassum. The Dorado bite had been insane this year.

Xiphis,

I would imagine with the good weather on Saturday there would be at least 3 or 4 boats working each of those rigs. It would be nice to find a rip on the way out. Have you guys tried any of the public wreckS/reefs.?? Any luck? What about the nipple/spur area?

I am also kind of curious about bait in the area. Are there any good spots to cast net inside for pinfish (I would think any marina?). Also, were can we sabiki for hardtails on the way out? Right by the jetties?

Thanks again guys...if yall ever need any direction in the western part of La...let me know

fished the petronius area last weekend tagged a blue about 100 miles se of petronius and broke another off at petronius sat morning. Saw some yf at tlp marlin fished the beer can with nothing to show. dolphin bite was good only found scattered grass in these areas but the action was still nice. I would head in the derection of pretonius from there you can fish tlp marlin beer can ram powell and the steps. I am sure if you bump around in that area you will come up with something. might want to order a roffers or check hiltons for breaks and rips. roffs showed a few rips but we never found them. you should be able to catch pinfish in ob marina they are loaded up drop to the bottom for the larger ones. there is usually a good stand of them over by the cleaning tables if you wanted to throw the net. good luck

The Pensacola Big Game Fishing Club has it's tournament this weekend...84 boats and 400K in cash awards. So it's looking kinda crowded at the ghetto (Pet,Marlin,Ram). The dorado bite has been good at some of the shallower rigs in 600' of water north of Ram Powell. No tournament Sunday so things should settle down so as far as fishing pressure go. Good Luck , give us a report!
