Default First Post

Been reading all the post for about the last six weeks waiting for something prolific to say as a new used boat owner. Today at around 11am I figured out what a first post should not be, "I think I blew out the lower unit on my Merc 225 today and was stranded on deer Island for a few hours". I think "Hi" would have been better. having a buddy with his boat come over from Mobile and go out to Horn with you would help make sure you don't get stranded. No one thinks that two boats will break down at the same time, I was wrong there too. I am so glad that I have a big cooler and a lot of beverages. Thankfully we were able to find a kinked fuel line on my buddys boat and at least get his running for a nice tow home. This story could go on for a while, but I just wanted to say hello and that I have enjoyed your post and hope to keep learning from you guys.

I still had fun. Probably because I don't know how much it cost yet.

Welcome!

IN MY EXPERIENCE THEY CAN ALL BREAK AT ANY TIME!

I've been stranded out in the gulf in a 2 month old boat (due to faulty stater module). Learned that a GPS would have been nice to give our coordinates since is was night and very very hard for the 180' supply boat to find us in the large field of rigs where in. Bought a hand held soon after.

I've been stranded due do oil injection pump going and end result was a toasted block. Very important to have a VHF (which we did). Would have been a long night in the marsh with plenty of mosquitoes and gnats.

I've been stranded due to prop hub slipping and the new boat owner I was with did not have a spare. Now I won't go offshore without a spare prop. Also learned jack-up barges are slow! It was a long long tow in.

Good luck with the repair!

Gary

A first post like that is like renaming a boat or taking bananas fishing.

Just got off the phone with the mechanic working on my boat. Looks like it is worst case scenario for the gear case and prop shaft, both shot. Anyone know of a local place to get a used lower unit. I just made the first payment on this boat last Friday and really don't want to drop another $2,500 bucks on a new or remanufactured one this week.
