Okay, now I got some "sea legs" and confidence in boating, so I'm ready to tackle this fishin' thing! Don't know much about these waters and what's swimmin' round in there. So far, I'm getting to know my way around the Wolf river, St Louis Bay and Jourdan river, so I'll stay there for now. What can I expect to catch in these areas? What are some good spots to anchor? What kind of "fake bait" and lures are good? (no live bait). I don't have a trolling motor -yet. I've got somekickin' recipes for trout and flounder, now I need the main ingredients! Can you local guys help me out again?
Off to find a good "Fishing for Dummies" book...
there's all kinds of fish in the bay and the mouths of the rivers. i have a friend thats been fishing the mouth of the jourdan river and he's been catching specs, white trout, flounders, red fish and sharks.
I have been catching some decent trout in the Bay. If you are just starting to learn it would probably be best if you had someone show you but otherwise set yourself up with some popping corks, jig heads and some H&H cocahoe minnows. Some of my best colors are opening night and blue moon. Good luck.
Boongirl, was that you I saw launching at Delisle on Sunday around lunchtime. I was on a blue waverunner, passed you a few times, realized later that may have been you. Very nice looking rig, it looks like you've got the hang of the launching thing. Couldn't believe how busy that launch was, as we loaded and pulled out, there were at least seven waiting to launch.
Was pretty choppy out yesterday, where all did you go? Did you catch anything?
Oh, yah that was me! (white Seahunt w/ blue bimini) And yes that launch was hopping yesterday! Launching is no problem for me now, but I'm still trying to perfect the docking without hitting another boat or the pier!
We went out to the mouth of the Jourdan, but didn't catch anything. Still trying to learn about lures and fish, and also getting to know my fishfinder! Got any tips for me? My goal is to catch at least a speck, flounder and red before the season is over.
boongirl sorry i havnt responded to the pm as i started moving that weekend and internet went down/dissambled, sound like you are finding your way around very well.
the diamondhead cut is very good for reds with specs at times on both the north and south mouths, flounder is hit and miss right now but picks up late oct-nov, on weekend there is better chance on the south of the cut and very shallow and narrow path to the south mouth from the bay, as you know the water has been very high due to the s-sse wind blowing alot of water in, hopefully the wind will lay down soon.
