Default Live bait available in June

My father-in-law will be dragging for bait as soon as the season opens back up in June. He keeps his boat in the Pass Christian Harbor. We were able to run some bait before the season closed recently and you can pull right up to the boat and get drivethru service. We will most likely be somewhere between Cat Island and the Pass Harbor.

I will post more details...like a phone number to confirm availability when we know what date things will crank back up.

We had lots of squid, shrimp, and croakers...and lots of satisfied customers.

WELL, THEY ARE BUILDING THE BAIT SHOP BACK IN THE HARBOR. IT IS GOING TO HAVE A RESTARAUNT OVER THE TOP OF IT. SHRIMP SEASON IS CLOSED RIGHT NOW SO THERE IS NO ONE TO GET BAIT FROM. THE SEASON TYPICALLY OPENS FROM THE FIRST TO THE MIDDLE OF JUNE. ONCE YA GET TO KNOW ONE OR TWO OF THE SHRIMPERS YOU JUST GET THEIR PHONE NUMBERS AND CALL EM THE MORNING WHEN YOU ARE HEADED OUT AND JUST PULL RIGHT UP TO EM WHILE THEY ARE DRAGGING AND GET YOUR BAIT. IF I RECALL CORRECTLY PASSMAN, I READ ON A POST THAT YOU HAVE A HOUSE THEIR ON THE BEACH IN THE PASS. IF SO, I CAUGHT THOSE FISH ALMOST IN FRONT OF IT THE OTHER DAY!

dragn3 looks like you found a good batch of specks. All I'm catching are 10 to 12s for the last few weeks. I think I need to change my name to wrong place wrong time.

Yep...that's him. I went out with him for bait a few times before they closed the season. Which boat were you in?

For interested parties....message me with a good contact phone # and I'll pass it along to him so he can notify you as to when he will resume bait dragging. I'll make sure it is OK with him before I post his #.

Sounds like a great idea. In Florida most of the passes have bait boats there every morning. They monitor a certain channel on the VHF, so when you come out of the pass you call on the VHF to get their position and head on over. May be another idea to pass along with the phone #s. I have the DSC #s for a couple bait boats along the Gulf Coast. Hailing with DSC works great too. Good luck.

BOOMER- it's the guy who owned tigre's in the pass. i cant think of his name off hand. i know mrs. diane and the bradleys real well. actually jim and bill (her son's) owned the bait shop. the new bait shop is going to be real nice. the pilings are all in place so i would imagine that construction should begin pretty soon.

iyfphoto- i was in a 18 foot fisherman -center console - wellcraft. it was the day before the last day of the shrimp season. it was my wife and i and we met yall just east of marriane channel. then we stopped and dropped off the gaph tops to yall in front of the yaught club. i dont know if ya remember us or not but it's pretty cool to bump into you here on the site!

passman- i know the feeling! we fished hard 5 more days after that one and could'nt get on any big trout to save our lives!

also..... for the record i stated in my post that there is no where to get live bait from but that is not true. there is no one in pass, long beach or gulfport to get live bait from but they do have some places in back bay biloxi that you can get live bait and in ocean springs also.

FYI
I was handed a flyer this weekend that gave a phone number to order live bait. He stated that they will be working out of whats left of the GPT harbor sometime in June. The name was "Hardheads" and the phone # on the flyer was 860-1422.

Dragn3 - Oh ya I remember you. We had so many people come by that day I wasn't sure.

JC and I went out Sunday...where we were when you dropped off those fish...I had thrown my cast net in the back bay and had live croakers. No luck. We cut the little croakers up and even used some live/dead pogies...three to a hook...and we caught 7 nice trout in no time. Sometimes I just don't understand those fish. We ran to penthouse pier and he caught one on a DOA...it was enough to fry up when we got in.

When the season opens, he's gonna have it running 24/7...he's pretty pumped. I'm anxious to fill a couple of boxes with fresh shrimp. I like fresh fish, but I miss good fresh shrimp.

Ya I heard from JC that you had a little "leak" that made getting on a plane kinda tough...

Nice sharks...they fry good...I think I prefer them to trout.

Yeah! Shrimp and thus...bait season opens June 6th. We will be going out that morning and will have some live bait from then on. If we can find shrimp...we'll have them too. PM me or email me (iyfphoto(at)hotmail.com) and give me a name and contact # if you'll be looking for bait. I'll have JC give you a call to confirm the availability.

In fact...I was...and in fact...I caught it. Holy crap that thing was huge. I couldn't tell what it was until I got it all the way in. I had a 6" croaker and a double 9.0 hook setup. The hooks kind of hooked around his bill. I was able to shake the hooks loose for an easy release. I had my video camera with me...had to document that. That was the first one I caught ever. I've caught little spotted gar...never this type though. Between that, the sharks, and the jellyfish...I don't think I'll be swimming out there.

the reason i asked if you were the one who caught the gar is because the day you caught it i was with andy when we stopped by mr. jc's and watched the video with you all. small world!!!
