Default Summer time tuna out of Venice?

After work getting in the way of me being able to make a lump trip this year I want to try to head over to LA sometime in mid July. I have always heard about overnighters during the summer but not much during the day. The reason I ask is I'm bringing my dad along and he doesn't really want to do the overnighter as he said "he can't see in the dark." Is the tuna bite pretty good during the day or is it a strictly night time thing? Also, a plus to the day trip is the price, but is the extra $400-500 a boat worth the overnighter? Thanks!

There is no need to do an overnighter during the summer (unless you want heart pounding topwater action at it's finest). Any reputable Venice capt. should be able to put you on some YF tuna during the daylight hours. Not as much of a guarantee as nightime but you will have a good time.

Let us know how your trip went.

Reelpeace doesn't seem to have that much of a problem catching them during the day.
If you find a good capt you can do just as good during the day.

Try to book a trip around the Moon phase. If you do book a trip for an overnighter, book a full moon night. That way your dad can see the action. If you book a day trip, new moon is best.

Second Paradise Outfitters - Scott Avanzino is a great guy and a blast to fish with and runs a good operation.
