Default Who's snapper fishing opening weekend Apr 21-22 out of Daulphin Island.

OK we’re going to try coming down again on snapper opening weekend to Dauphin Island. The folks at Ken’s Car Tunes should have the boat ready when we come done on Thursday. Plans are to fish Saturday and Sunday.

So my questions is…Who else is planning on fishing that weekend and who with a boat is interested in buddying up for an day or two fishing? Also is anyone interested in meeting for dinner Thursday, Friday or Saturday at Barnacle Bill’s? I’ll but the first round. Also I have one spot on the boat for someone to tag along with. It would be nice if the person that comes along has local knowledge of the snapper holes. I don’t want your secret numbers just show us a couple of places to fish and maybe some tips on bait and rigging. Any one going??

Hey Ed, hope all is well you and your boat. We will be going that week end, we will probably be going out Fri. evening to beat some of the Saturday crowd, it should be down right crazy at the launch in the morning since opening day is on the weekend. It would probably be fun to sit down there with a video camera though. If your up for an overnighter your more than welcome to buddy up with us, we will fish our way out to some rocks and then head to a rig somewhere to take a nap. That being said, it is all depending on the weather also. give me a call if you are up for it, if not I will see about getting some numbers to you. If you have the GOM chip in your garmin it will have most if not all the rigs in it.

good luck guys.
it will be crowded that weekend. i have to work that weekend so i won't be able to get out.
Ed there is many public spots to fish. some good and some old with not much structure left. the orange beach fishing association has put out like 200 or so new wrecks every year for the last couple of years. they are small but can be pretty good.
they usually post the coordinates for the newest ones in the Mobile paper right before snapper season opens every year.

rock, i was talking to a buddy last week and he knows somebody with the orange beach fishing assoc. and he was told they are late getting the reefs out because of state matched funds or something like that, so they probably wont be releasing any new numbers this year. could b.s. don't know for sure.

There is allready so many of these little reefs out there. Go to alabama.com download them, punch some into your GPS (southeast of D.I. in the private reef zone). Run from spot to spot checking each one out and while u are running inbetween look on your bottom machine. There are some huge private reefs out that way. I have found a couple and they are very productive. I see the Lady Ann and the rest of Mikes boats out there all the time!

Plus the RIGS have the big fish anways if your fishing the tourny!

I spent the last two nights putting GPS # into my MAP Source program. I got a 140 spota listed so far. It's looks there are lot of places to fish.... Now I just got to figure out which ones have fish on them. Anyone fish the Tensaw or DI Bridge reefs or the Army tanks?? Any fish on those spots?

alot of the DI bridge rubble has either sunk or been covered by huricanes. Sometimes it comes back. Tennsaw is a nice place sometimes. There is always lots of people there. Most of the public reefs due south of D.I. are very unproductive. You will either need to travel South East, or way south to those rocks Im talking about. Im telling you. There is an area to the southwest called the Guss. There is a lot of rigs there, in about 150 ft. Lots of AJ's Snapper Cobia and everything else. Alittle south of that is city rigs.

Also some of the rigs out by the shelf are very productive the 255 and such. that is also where those rocks are!!!

I've never had a lot of luck on the bridge rubble but have fished a lot of tanks with mixed results. You are most likely going to spend a lot of time looking for stuff that has been moved or covered up by storms. As far as the smaller reefs go(tanks and Orange Beach Reefs) don't waste too much time looking for something that isn't where it is supposed to be. You will end up scratching a bunch of those waypoints off of your list by the end of the day. WATCH YOUR BOTTOM MACHINE WHEN RUNNING FROM EACH SPOT. Most important, be patient and keep your cool. There will be a ton of idiots out there that weekend that think they own the Gulf and every rig/reef in it. Billy Goat Hole will be a zoo!!!!!!!!

I have some spots in my database called marathon jacket, corkscrew, solitary mound, cats paw, pinnacles, and many more. These are in about 200 to 300 ft of water and about 50 nautical miles from fairwell bouy. The bathymetry of this area is beautiful. Rock pile after rock pile then stretches of flats then a massive drop off to over a 1000' of water.

It's how they measure the ocean bottoms. It's like a picture of how the bottom of the ocean looks like.

Are talking charts for your plotter? What I have is GIS maps that I have in my mapping database. I pull off particluar lat/long coords of specific peeks then feed them into a spreadsheet. That way when when my boat gets here I can feed those into my C120 and go fish those.

Y'all of course realize you have just put the gree-gree on the weather this weekend by posting tempting weather conditions????

Now, we'll need a couple of chickens, a midget and a goat to get the hex off. Anybody know a one eyed, toothless, Rastafarian witch doctor missing a thumb....

swrock posted some very good sites not to long ago. See if this gets what you need, if not let me know. I use ArcGIS and GlobalMapper to do all my mapping. GlobalMapper does all my 3D bathymethry for me while ArcGIS manages all my GIS databases.
