I fished out of Venice all summer and found catching live bait fairly easy. Generally use small sabiki on rig or grass and caught all the small bait i needed.

Do tactics for catching live bait change in the winter?
Is bait generally more difficult to come by?

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Live biat has been very difficult to catch right now. The water has been cold close in. Speaking from Grand Isle, it is best to try to catch your live bait before you leave. If you have the time to work the docks and marshes around the marinas to get live mullet, you are leaving with money in the bank so to speak.

We hit 7 platforms last week, looking for hardtails and ended up with one, and he was very large.........

They are very unpredictable this time of year.

no live bait in the gulf where i fish water to cold. i try to catch small sea bass or little sand fish.now anything that wiggles is a plus
