Attention All Boaters Docking Or Using Ramps Off The Vermilion River
Our friends told us they ran into something in the water when returning up the Vermilion River last week. We went out Tuesday for probably our last day at our favorite beach and saw a diver checking out the area around the hazard buoys on the west side of the river. We thought that whatever our friends hit was identified and removed.
Went out today to try some perching with a friend today and got chased off the lake. Coming into the river I was a good 10 feet east of the 1st hazard buoy and BANG!!! Starboard engine stalled and I restarted it and moved on. Tried to signal the boat coming in from behind us but BANG, they hit it too.
Had the boat lifted at Romps to see if there was any damage to my hull, starboard prop, shaft or rudder. Luckily there was no damage.
Talked to Jeff and Chuck at the marina and was told we were the 2nd boat lifted this week after hitting the obstruction and had reports of 4 others hitting it. We were also told the diver could not find anything during the Tuesday dive.
UNTIL A HAZARD BUOY IS PLACED EAST OF THE OBSTRUCTION ENTER THE RIVER AT THE EXISTING BUOYS AS FAR EAST AS YOU CAN.
I reported the obstruction to the public boat ramps who are in charge of the river safety.
