Default Things to do in Ann Arbor

Going to Ann Arbor in September for a football game. Wondering if anyone has any recommendations on what else there is to do there. Also, any amazing places to eat that I just cant miss? Flying into DTW and will be in Ann Arbor thursday through monday, unless there is somewhere else I need to go. Havent booked hotel yet, but will soon.

Thanks fellow THT peeps

You better start checking on hotels, there isn't much (any?) downtown within walking distance and only a few in the ring xways around the area. From there, it's 20-45 minutes to anything. You may want to stay in downtown Detroit, a few casinos and Greektown. Other areas of metro Detroit are decent, depends on your interest.

The main street of AA has a bunch (dozens?) of restaurants, most of them very good. It's fun people watching... AA is called 20 square miles surrounded by reality... and it lives up to that saying.

There are a few hotels in AA at the I-94/State St.exit (I know one is a Holiday Inn and the other might be a Sheridan). Prices will probably be high because of football weekend.

As an alternative, Plymouth has a new (this past March) Holiday Inn and a Hilton Garden Inn that I can personally vouch for as being nice and clean. Both are off of M-14.

Plymouth is a GREAT little town, VERY safe, very active downtown, and less congested than staying in AA. Some nice restaurants too. I would say it would be about 1/2 hour drive to the Big House (can't vouch for game day though).

I'd say it's a little less than 1/2 hour from DTW.

Lots of construction. I know I-275 is closed right now north of Plymouth but with a little more time US 23 is a good alternate by driving a little west of there.

Thanks for the replies. I checked hotels, they were 3 miles from what looks like downtown Ann Arbor. Not terrible pricing. Close enough for an uber

I lived there 9 years great town. Just go downtown hungry or thirsty and you'll bump into all kinds of stuff. If you want to see nature drive up Huron Parkway and go to the park there. Really nice area.

A squared....quintessential college town! Game day is something special for sure. My Sis did 7 years of med school there and I'll never forget walking into that stadium the first time, made every hair on you stand up. Enjoy!!

That's why I am going. Figured how often is UCF going to play Michigan, and want to checkout this stadium. Just trying to figure out what to do on the other days that aren't game day.

Anyone know of anyone with club(premium) seats they want to sell?

You could go to Zingermann's Deli for a look see and maybe coffee or a sandwich. Generally acknowledged as one of the best deli's in the country outside NYC.

The AA Farmer's Market on Saturday morning is one of the best in the State ( I think the best). Fun to see and maybe get some healthy food. Michigan is a big time apple state. You should see some heirloom varieties.

There may be some other sports playing while you are there. M has an excellent Women's Field Hockey team and it is fun sport at that level. The U of M golf course is pretty cool. Not sure on access.

Go see the Yost Ice Arena if you can get in. Look up Red Berenson beforehand...

It is a little early for peak leaf color but there will be some..

There are a lot of new buildings at the U. The Law School is old and pretty interesting.

Maybe check for concerts?? The Ark is a famous acoustic venue if you like that.

People watching in AA is usually pretty good..

Have fun....

Great thanks for the ideas. I had the deli on the list, it was ranked pretty high on yelp and google. A $20 sandwich better be amazing. Lol

In case you appreciage good beer. You're coming to one of the top ( if not THE top) beer destination states. I included a list since you're up for a few days. Check out Arbor Brewing anyway. They are on the high end of the spectrum. I like the dark beers and even Marylin likes their Mackinaw Island Fudge Stout. On my favorites list. Their Strawberry Blonde is on the shelves around the state now, but haven't tried it yet. Too busy with area beers up here in the north part of the state.
Don.
