235 is a fine boat for lake erie chop; have run one out there and it does a good job; if it's too rough on the lake for her, you wouldnt be out on the queen mary either
But why pay whaler prices? Most other 23' boats will ride just as well with less dollars invested

I have a 26 outrage and I'll tell you what, 1-3 chop no problems. You do start to feel it with the three footers. Anything more, it beats the snot out of you. I will say though, I always feel safe out there and have been out in solid 5-6's, not much fun rolling around but it is doable.

I strongly recommend sea trialing one and getting out in one in the conditions you are concerned about. As was stated in the earlier post, this really is a buyers market, and you could probably get into "more" boat for the same money.

Just as an aside, where in the world is South Russell? Just curious

East of Cleveland, next to Chagrin Falls. South Russell is in western Geauga County.

I've fished lots out of Eareau in my sons 21 Conquest. Sometimes uncomfortable but never felt unsafe. Good boat.

Ok, missed that one somehow, thought I'd been everywhere--but then you are probably not familiar with Erlin or Vickery are you?

That would be a negative on Erlin or Vickery. Where the heck are they?

WOW, I've only been going to the island area for 44 years, and have down south of 2 quite a bit in that area. I'll have to keep my eyes open a bit more.

Thanks

boston whaler makes great boats! I love my conquest. That sead they do not run in chop like a contender or any other boat with a 24+ dead rise. But they are more stable and drift better in my opinion. My boat has a 20deg. Dead rise and can run in 3' chop but any more and it gets ruff. You just gota slow down a little and take it easy in the bigger stuff. My boat has ben rock solid and has preformed better than I expected in most conditions. I have ben way out (20 miles) and ran into some bad weather and allways feel safe. The boat can handle more than I can that's forsure! If head sea ride is a concern add some trim tabs and that makes a huge diff. I can really smoth out the ride in slop with a little bow down.

Default Bad ride

I used to drive the ODNR boats out of Cleveland 25 Whalers and the ride was the worst I have every had. I will never understand why people like these boats they simple pound and pound on Lake Erie. I would never every spend money on one of those. I have owned and operated on a Lake Erie
221 Mako good ride but too small
316 Mako too long of a hull for Lake Erie and would pound
26 Regulator great for the lake but sold it when used demand was high
306 Grady White great ride in the lake but slow

Go for a 24 degree hull and never look back

Those 24 degree hulls do ride nice in a head sea. But you better take your Dramamine and be warring a pfd if you plan to drift for walleye in anything over 1 foot chop or you may be thrown out of the boat! Those boats are dangerous in rough water if you’re not on plain and going straight into the waves. I have fished from a Regulator 26 and they are sweet boats but man o man do they rock back and forth if you’re not on plan going straight into the waves. Don't get me wrong i realy like Regulators and there quality is top notch but any boat with a 8'6" beam and 24 degree dead rise is going to rock like hell. I don’t think any of the other boats u listed have a 24 degree dead rise. But they are all nice boats for sure.

Try an Albermarle 24 great riding boat in sloppy conditions. Handles 3-4 footers no problem.
