Default Lake Erie (Presque) boating

I'll be new to boating on Erie maybe once or twice this season, then next season I plan to boat there. Looking for tips on things to do when your not fishing or tubing. Any places you can dock and grab some dinner? Any other attractions you can get to by boat? As a new Erie boater, I'll be sticking to the bay and close to land for a while.

I've always boated in the rivers around Pittsburgh, but I just finished restoring a boat I bought this year and I'm thinking I may float in Erie a bit just for something different. I camp up there a lot near Presque, but I've not boated out there before, so just looking to get a feel for what's going on up there.

Thanks.

Spend the day at beach 11 with the boat. Nice and shallow, great for kids.. Used to do that all the time until we got a place just over the line in ohio...

I was just at Beach 11 Sunday for the last time this season. Nice day and not very crowded.

I used to live in Ferncliff Beach, the cottages right beside the Erie Yacht Club EYC down at the end of the bay, as far as eats youve got Rum Runners, Smugglers Wharf, and Rum Runners Cove, their right on Dobbins landing and you can dock right up to them, Rum Runners has the best deck area for sitting outside. You can also dock at dobbins landing they have transient docking nearby and walk upto Molly Branigans, or Pufferbellies about two blocks uptown. Juniors by the Bay and The Sloppy Duck Saloon is just down the bay a little ways toward the EYC. I think there may be a few new ones but Im not sure. Unfortunately Erie really hasnt developed the waterfront to its full potential, its a shame because its a beautiful place in the summer and fall. You can also run up the lake to Dunkirk NY to Demetris or Walleye Willies its a nice ride just watch the weather it can get nasty real quick.

You're from Butler? Me too. I went up last Sunday. Ended up eating at Rum Runners. Water was a little choppy though. Too choppy for my little boat. I didn't end up going to far out of the bay. But we had fun floating around and swimming.

Beach 11 confuses me though. I didn't think you were allowed to beach on Presque? I thought I read that you have to stay 500 feet away from the beaches or something. No?

You can take your boat to beach 11. Where the swimmers beach 11 starts and boaters 11 ends I'm not sure. Unless you get there before 10 am you can just go where the boats are. If you go early on a weekday and there is nobody there, just stick to within 1/3 mile from the lighthouse and you will be fine. You cannot anchor at seagull point thanks to the piping plover. You can go west of seagull point but unless it is dead calm, beach 11 is best. With the prevailing west wind you are protected by the point. We have been to beach 11 many times this year when the waves were 3-5 ft and 11 is calm. Nauti duck is right. It is best to dock behind Dobbins Landing through the west slip. Enter west of dobbins landing east of the convention center. You will know you are in the right place because you will travel under an enclosed walkway from the hotel to the convention center. Next year look for me at beach 11. I have a Tiara 31 named "Slice of Heaven"

I'll look you up for sure next year Sammi. Although, I'll probably have to keep my old boat far away from the nice boats I saw docked up there that day. I don't want to bring the neighborhood down. ;-)

I looked at the map of where beach 11 is, and I know exactly where you're talking about. I anchored a few hundred yards out for beach 11 last weekend while I made some carb adjustments. I just didn't realize that was beach 11. Now I know!
