Default Dispy Divers 101

I received a number of replies to my Fall Trolling post..most of which, mentioned Dipsy Divers.

After researching DDs a bit, I am now curious as to whether they can be used for musky fishing as well? How shallow can they be run, and how would they perform pulling a 12" double jointed crank bait?

Thanks,

Sean

A plug would add too much drag, and flatten out the dive angle.. No good.

You'd be better off with a downrigger..

You do not require dipsies or downriggers when musky fishing. Your musky lures with the lip will take it down, and if you need to get it down further then just add some weights between your main line and your leader. Dwain

Exactly!

It's not all about the depth control, it's about pulling the lure away from the boat for a more stealth presentation.

You won't use the standard depth charts available to determine how far down a stickbait is running behind a dipsey like you would a clean spoon.

Experiment to see what triggers strikes.

Dipseys would be a great way to target fish that are shy of big sticks trolled in the propwash.

Torque down on the trip release screw so the dipsey won't pop trolling a big stick bait.
