I am an inland musky fisherman with straight line trolling experience. I have a 21.5" center console that I am planning on doing some fall Lake Michigan trolling for salmon. Is it possible to get bit, fishing shallow to the first break line near creek inlets, using planer boards and straight line trolling? Also, any basic advice on what type of baits to pull, leaders, etc... Just trying to get started here.

this time of your you could get some fish trolling flat lines, but if you pick up a couple of dipsy diver and a few 3 or 4 oz trolling sinkers you will have much better luck. this time of year the salmon are starting to gather for spawning runs in the rivers so there will be lots of folks fishing the river mouths and pier heads.

I fish St Joe Michigan and often have an empty seat, wanna go??
