Default Stacking Downriggers for Lake Ontario Salmon?

I will be fishing Lake Ontario the last week in August. I normally run 2 dipsies and 2 down riggers. There will be 4 people on board. I would like to run more lines.. Is it worth stacking down riggers or should I run 2 more dipsies set for different angles. I tried to stack down riggers before and ended up with a mess. Any suggestions?

We have all but given up with stacked rods on our downriggers. Actually, we rarely have all 3 riggers in the water at one time anymore.

I would not suggest running dipsies on different settings with more than one out each side. This takes practice and you don't want to spend your vacation practicing.

We have to constantly fight the urge to get all the lines in the water that we are permited. Sometimes less is better and the longer we go on L.O. the more I believe that stealth is the way to go. Stacked rods creates a lot of stuff in the water.

You may want to try a flat line to get the fifth line in the water. We have gone to 100% copper flatlines. But if you don't have a copper set up, maybe a lead core set up would work as well.

Do you have planer boards? If so, consider running some stuff of the boards, you can get a lot of lines out that way and your not interfering with your boat spread. If you don't have big boards, you can buy an inline board or two and run a lead core of this. You need to be carefull setting lines when you have boards and dipsies, but we can get deeper into this if it interests you.

Have you condisered a slider (aka "cheater")? This would be another way of getting another line in the water, but the break off rate is pretty high.

Remember, the last week of august the salmon with be staging big time, so you probably are going to be fishing a shallow water column, so if you stuff too much crap there, they may get line shy.

Tell us what boat your in (beam) and what port your fishing out of.

I have a walkaround with outboard power. The beam is 8ft. I'll be fishing the Oak and close to Golden Hills Camp Ground

I run up to 3 dipseys on each side as well as a jet. I have no problems with them at all. Just remember what you have out and have the deepest next to the boat.

I would definitely stack the riggers. I fish dipsies because they do produce, but I really prefer to fight a fish on a clean line.

We now run 4 riggers so we don't stack much unless we're fishing really deep. Prior to the outside pair of riggers, our go to spread was to stack the riggers, then braid dipsies out the sides on a 3 1/2 setting and inline planer boards with leadcore on the outsides.

The Scotty stacker releases are great.

Stackers are no problem as long as you remember which rod is where.
