Russ
I try to make the trip from Chicago to lake erie at least one time a year

I don't really have any walleye stuff just use all my salmon stuff
We have a bunch of little spoons we use here for coho that works great for the eyes
last June we limited out 3 days in a row trolling 5 colors of lead dipseys and riggers out between the sputnik and west sister in 35fow
we launched out of Monroe Michigan
nice trip !

Hondacat, THERE IS A SHEEPHEAD IN YOUR BOAT! Launch that bad boy. Proper sheephead release is to get the fish up to the boat, grab the hook with a pair of pliers, then give it one good shake to release.

My old boat was a Scarab Sport and the slowest I could get the boat down to was 5.1MPH using one engine and dragging two drift socks. My current boat is a Thompson 240 fisherman with an I/O so I'm hoping I can get the speed down around 1MPH. I know there are several different ways to troll, down riggers, dipseys, snap weights, jet divers, etc. I don't know if one technique is better than another. I have trolled for salmon and steelhead on Lake Michigan but I don't have a good understanding of how it's done on Lake Erie.

What would be great is if you could show me how you are set up and I could try to duplicate it. I would also like to make a list of what I need to purchase to get set up.

If anyone is willing to help me out I would greatly appreciate it. You can respond to this thread or feel free to PM me.

Thanks in advance.

Russ

HondaCat,

Ya, memorial weekend time is great. Nice catches. But the majority of the big females have left that area and headed east by then. You pick up many aggressive young males. If you want some hogs next year, venture a little further to Vermillion at that time. After june you have to go further east yet.
