Default Traveling South down Lake Michigan

We are traveling down Lake Michigan this June from Mackinaw City to Chicago - which side would you pick - East or West for the trip.
Thanks
Eric

In General, you have prevailing west winds, which make the seas rough on the east side of the lake, so your best bet for a long trip like that would be the Wisconsin side.

Of course, the lake can make a liar out of me, but that's my 2 cents.

Made that trip up and back down many times on both sides. Home port is South of Milwaukee on the WI side. Depends on the purpose of the trip. If bringing a boat back I look for the best forcast and take the favorable side. I've even filled up in Frankfort and took her as the crow flies, depending on fuel capacity.

If you are looking for a pleasure cruise I perfer the Michigan side for the most part, I like their ports better. Another nice option to visit Leland and then over to Beaver Island then shoot across to deaths door of Door County WI. Go into Green Bay and visit Sister Bay, Fish Creek and Egg Harbor, all nice spots. Come back out to the main lake through Sturgeon Bay's shipping channel and head south.

Have fun.

From Mac City, Charlevoix or Beaver Island are nice stops as is Harbor Springs on the Michigan side for day one....

Depending on your schedule and the weather, Leland, Frankfort, Ludington or further south the next day on the Michigan side are all nice spots....

Farther south or the other side, I can't help too much....

PM if you want to know about the first 4 or 5......
