All of our delivery drivers and outside salesman have had to get one to enter the plants around here.
Think they are 150 bucks or so, and it's a homeland security clearance thing.

I'm going to attend the Lake Erie Charter Boat Association (LECBA) Captain's Conference this Saturday that Fred Snyder from Ohio Sea Grant puts on every spring. I expect they will take about this for Ohio requirements. Can give an update on what I hear after the meeting.

Default Typical govt crap

Had a great experience with TWIC yesterday. Made an appointment for 4 p.m. to apply for the card in Sandusky, OH. Arrived at 3:50 p.m. Guy was in with the Homeland Security employee (only one employee in office): and one guy in waiting room. He says he is there to pick up his card; they didn't notify him it was in but he happened to call and they said it was in. He did not have an appointment. At 4:20 p.m. 1st guy leaves, so Homeland woman takes in the guy without an appointment and it takes until 510 p.m. for him to PICK UP his card -- machine would not authorize it so Homeland woman is on the phone and finally gets things fixed after a half hour. They close at 5 p.m. so interviewer locks door with me and 3 other guys in the office and says she will take care of us but no more. I go in, it takes about 15 minutes for her to get my info, photograph me and take my finger prints (I just had my finger prints taken by the Coast Guard in Oct. but the CG and Homeland Security computers CANNOT share info (remember the 911 promise of getting ALL gov't computers to talk to each other -- well so much for that crap!)
I'm finished and it is about 5:30 and she says card will be BACK in 3-6 WEEKS (even ODOT can give you a license ON SITE). She says she will notify me by phone (2 guys in waiting room say it won't happen, keep checking). I asked her if I should make an appointment to pick up he card. She says (smiling), "well, you had a 4 p.m. appointment today and it is 5:30!!!!!!!"
All this so I can give the govt. $132.50 for a card that I will never use. What a deal!
Oh, I'm a bit more upset with our bureaucrats than normal since it just took me 5 months to get my CG charter license renewed!!

Yep Steve I was told the same thing...I was also told that there was a threat of revocation of your Capts. lic. If you do not comply...

I pre-enrolled on line on the TWIC website, picked the nearest enrollment location (Grand Island, NY Port Of Buffalo Office) and picked a date and time.

Was pretty fast and painless, walk-ins are allowed but sat there and watched me go right in to be processed.

Same crap as I did for my Masters lic., my passport, and my NEXUS card which I got the freakin' week before!!!!!!!!!

No wonder we can't figure out how many illegals there are in this country...the Agencies can't even cross-reference info from WILLING, LEGAL people.

I had a great experience in Sandusky in December. I got lucky in that there was no one else there and all the computers were actually working. I talked to the Toledo REC today and they explained that you CANNOT renew or upgrade your license without the TWIC card in hand.
