We have a few, great lakes that is.
The best is Flathead, 10x30 miles. Koocanusa is 1x100 miles. Hungry Horse is 2x40 miles. No Lake Michigan to be sure, but then hardly anybody lives here either. No lines at the boat ramps. Darn few boats on the water. Check out the pictures.
I moved here from your part of the world, having lived in Michigan, then Wisconsin and Illinois from 1979 to 1998.
All I can say is...you have to fish here to believe it. If someone feels like towing on out for vacation, drop me a note and we'll hook up on Flathead or Koocanusa or Hungry Horse for Lakers, Rainbow, Bulls or Cutthroat. In August, Lake Superior whitefish are in a frenzy.
Limits? Well, hold on to your hats. In Flathead, its 50 per day per person for Lakers and 100 per day per person for Lake Superior Whitefish. Other lakes are not nearly so generous.
Here's some pics.
Before someone gets upset about keeping so many fish, here's the facts. Macs and Whitefish are not native and we have an overabundance of these species in the principal watershed of the threatened native Bull Trout. Hence the exceeding large daily limits. If the fisherman don't get 'er done, other means might be employed and we don't even want that.
Great Lakes Laker rigs are super efficient here. Have plenty of wire on those downriggers, cuz you'll need it.
