The Great Lakes Association of Science Ships will be holding their Vessel Coordination Workshop concurrently at the Great Lakes Maritime Academy next door. Greetings, Members and Friends of the Great Lakes Captains Association and the Great Lakes Association of Science Ships.

As previous communications have given you the dates for Industry Days, we will reiterate that information here. We will begin the conference at 1300 hours, (that’s 1:00 PM for you landlubbers), Wednesday, January 14, 2009. The agenda and pre-registration forms are enclosed with this mailing. A hot breakfast buffet will be available both Thursday and Friday mornings from 0700 to 0800.

Thursday kicks off with Coast Guard issues. Our afternoon will consist of two breakout sessions, with tug issues in one room and T-boats and Ferries in the other. This year we will have all D9 Sectors represented at all sessions. They will be at the conference all three days. It is really great to have the Coast Guard representation involved with our association again.

As usual, our Thursday night program will be Casino Nite with the Vendor’s Reception and Silent Auction. If you have any items for the silent auction we would really appreciate the donations, as Our Scholarship fund will greatly benefit from the monies received.

We do hope you will stay for Friday sessions. Check out at the hotel is late so you can stay without having to vacate your room before the sessions are out.

This year, we have new vendors as well as those who have been with us for several years. Make sure you visit them and take advantage of conference pricing.

Again, the Holiday Inn West Bay is the place to meet and have our program. For reservations, call 1-800-888-8020 and tell them you are with GLCA or GLASS for the conference, to obtain the rate of $65.00 per night. If you are planning on attending, it is important to get your hotel reservations in to Holiday Inn, as the number of rooms available are limited. Last January, we filled them all.

Don’t forget to bring your brochures and ads to put out on the table in the hallway. Also, remember we have a milestone approaching, Our 25th anniversary is next year, so be thinking of how we can make it a special occasion.

See you all the 14th through the 16th of January 2009.

Sincerely,

Jack Cork,
President
