Got out before the storm and experienced my best day in 8 years. Trolled Reef Runners and ripstics at 1.4-1.8 mph. Best colors were eriedesent, bare naked and the reef runners were run from 45-110 back off inline boards.
A ripstick at 70-80 back picked two of the 20 eyes but one was 28.5in and 10lbs. The graph was unbelieveable with bait and hooks from the surface down to about 30 feet and the fish were footballs.
It was nice cruising out and in at 30-35mph in calm seas. The run from west harbor to the fish was about 19-20mi. and I loved every minute of it. It rained intermittently all day and the fish seemed to bite much better when it wasn't raining. Late in the day Eriedescent 110 back was on fire!. Boat traffic was never a problem as we were away from the pack all day. Basically we worked a n-s troll in about 40-42 f t of water all day in the scattered 1mil school of bait and fish.
End result was about 20 fish, all between 5-10lbs. The biggest 6 went 2 at 10lbs., 1 at 9lbs, 2 at 8 lbs. and one seven.
I only got to fish for about 6 hours with only 4 lines but the action was steady. I only got one big sheephead all day. PM me if you want specifics re: gps coordinates.
All fish were released unharmed an swam away swiftly after the pictures. I'll try to post pics.
I finally got what I consider to be an excellent day of Walleye fishing. I've payed my dues and it feels good to finally get a day like I had at 29-29 about 6-8 years ago were everyything was BIG!
I did reach the magic 30in. mark with the big one. Thanks Mother Erie for a great day!
