Default Lake Erie Western sand bar report 10-14

Sorry for the late report. It was a slow day numbers wise but the walleye were very nice size. Trolled the western side of the sand bar about 20nmi from west harbor. It was an interesting bite with some fish up in 10-12 foot over 48ft. and some fish in the 40 ft. zone and not much inbetween. The marks on the graph looked great with bait balls everywhere, and thick hooks at 10-12 ft. down. I took several fish on a "silver streak" reef runner 45 back, and dipsys with pooh bear chartruse ran about 40 feetdown did the trick for me.

I ended up with 15 fish for the day.

One 10lb, two 8lb, 3 6lb and the rest between 3-5lbs.

Awesome day and if the weather takes a turn for the better I may be at it again.

the 34-36 line north and 25 west worked for us.

Good luck, its ON!

The fish are still there, at least they were on 10/25. We had similar results but most our fish came from 35' to 45' range. Dipseys worked best with spoons. Our biggest was 9.76 pounds. We caught 16 for the day. The conditions were pretty rough out there.

We attended the Walleye Central Get Together event in Huron. A very fun event that has a dinner/raffle for charity and Braggin Rights tourney. The City of Huron folks and Walleye Central and sponsors (such as South Shore that sale great rough weather boats like the Carolina Classic) did a great job. Freebyrd is on this board a lot and was responsible for helping put this event on.

It's a great way to end the season.

Paul,
We have been doing good on Gull Island Shoal the past 3 times out. As you know the shoal is big so you may have to move around a little to find the fish but we have been able to find them. On Friday 10/17 we fished the southwest side of the shoal and found the walleyes in a pretty small area. We got most of our fish in the 10' range and got none when the depth got to 16' - 17'. The strange thing was the only lure we were getting fish on was a 3/4OZ Tom's lemonhead. I tried using Weapons, Parrish Pea's, and Erie Dearies but for some reason they really liked the Tom's lemonheads. It was rough on Friday with a steady supply of 6 footers and a couple of the guys were not feeling good so we only fished until 12:30 but five of us got 21 walleyes that weighed 114lbs and we had several 8-9 pounders and a couple that may have been over 10 pounds.

We have been fishing this area all fall and there is no one else fishing it. In stead of running all the way to the sandbar you should give the shoal a try. One mistake I see most fisherman make when fishing this shallow water bite is to run your boat back up your drift right through the area you are fishing. We always make a big circle back up our drift and try to stay several hundred yards away from your drift line. You don't spook the fish by running over your drift.

Thanks Russ for the tip on GIS it's only about 10 miles from the chute. If the lake is calm I may run to the Huron / Vermilion again but if not I may try it up by the line.

Lady Bridge II, You saw how good the bite has been in that area. The quality is amazing out there right now. What color spoons were they hitting for you? And what speed were you running. I seemed to do best around 1.7-2.1mph statute.

The spoons with some purple and yellow. Jager bomb has also been real good. My speeds had been 2.3 to 2.5 mph but the last trip I threw a bag out to go 2.1 mph for the bite.

I have friends fishing the area this weekend. Hope the bite is still on. Those are some nice fish and wil be even nicer next year. Good luck out there.

Fished the same area 11-1 with about half the fish that I had before. The marks and fish were much more scattered than before. I ended up limiting out but it was much slower. Couldn't get any bites shallow, most my fish came out of 30-35 feet down over 43-45ft.

I may have to find some other fish, the charters are hammering them in the area pretty hard. But, I didn't set lines until 10am if it was an early bite.

Thanks Lady Bridge and Russ for the info. And if I find another location that's producing I'll let you guys know on this board, I've given up posting on the other sites, too many tournament guys raping my spots if I post.

Paulywwog.

I heard the bite has slowed a bit and also has come in much closer to Huron (3 miles out). I'm trying tomorrow on a friends boat, mine is already in storage.

I figure this may be my last chance out for the year.

We hope to leave the dock around 8 am. If your out there give a shout on 79.

Took a day off work and fished west of the Huron River, off Sawmill in 38' of water. Pulled purple demon RR back about 110' and smoked them. Two man limit in about 2 hours. We fished C&R all day, hoped to catch a wall hanger but biggest was 9.75 pounds. I fished aboard Hawk Eye Mikes boat. Excellent fall day, perfect weather and the bite was on.

Sure glad I took the day off work. Sounds like the weather will be changing quick.

Fished the Huron breakwall last night from 10-12pm didn't get a bite but what a night to fish. Calm winds, flat seas and tons of shad everywhere. Talked to a guy who lost one at the net. Didn't see any other fish caught.

Lots of boats were out.

Perch fished today, 12.3 miles out of Vermillion in 48FOW. Killed them, go our limit in less than 2 hours with most perch 10" & up.

Several boats to the west towards huron reporting great walleye catches while trolling. P

Probably our last time out this season.
