Default Split ring on a spoon/lure

I do a lot of trolling of spoons in Lake Erie for rainbows and pickerel. Some spoons, that you buy, have a split ring already attached some don't. I was wondering if the split ring adds to the spoon's action or interferes with it. What is your experience with the use or lack of use of a split ring? In the past, I have always added a split ring to the spoon if it didn't have one. I know it is a simple question but it could have an impact on the spoon's action. Always looking for the best presentation.

I doubt it matters that much, but I run them however they are packaged.

I always added a ring to the front and upgraded to a better hook on the back too. I always felt the ring would allow the lure to wobble and swim better. I never felt the stock hooks were very good quality either.
