I'm a new Great Lakes area boater (Lake Erie) and am wondering when everyone comes out of hibernation to put their boats in.
I'm trying to get an idea on the early end, late end, norms, etc....I can't wait!!!!!
Nice snook. I usually try to hold off until late May. Let all the crap finish washing off the shores. Be very careful if its real early. Alot of debris to dodge, at least in my area. Is that your boat in the sig pic?
On Superior we head out as soon as the ice clears from the launches which is usually sometime around the 2nd week of April. April and May are some great months for Coho.
Bobby,
My first Lake Erie walleye fishing trip has been within a few days of April 1, for the past 20 years.
We should plan an early April trip on your Contender. We will launch from Catawba Island. I'll bring some gear, we will catch some big walleye, get them cleaned and then have our fish cooked at Jolly Rogers in Port Clinton - it doesn't get much better than that...
No reason to wait to May for us! Additionally for early season trips you would be welcome to leave the boat here on the trailer in between trips.
I can't wait to get back out. I am all for a Walleye'n trip any time. I have everything to learn about freshwater fishing though.
And Vbumleg, That is a buddy's boat down in FL. I forget what it is but it's all set up for flats stuff. Power pole, poling platform, bunch of livewells, etc...the works. He knows what he's doin. That was a 42 incher! Thanks for your reply.
As soon as the freakin ice is off the lake! This years going to be ?, ton's of snow and way below average temps. It's warming up this week and Springs in the air!
End of March I hope! Full canvas and a Mr. Heater, although 50* feels like 80* when it finally hits.

Classic25,
I just sent pics of two different boats - sorry for the delay.
2007 25 Carolina Classic(InTheNet's boat)
2000 25 Carolina Classic with a C80 and C70 flush mounted
You were correct on the helm change on the 25s - I forgot about that but the pics of the 2000 I sent you were of the older style helm and same as on your 1997.
They were emailed to your Yahoo account. Call or email with questions 330-283-2155 is my wireless.

That's a really nice snook. We're you anywhere near Ft. Myers when you caught that? That bridge in the background reminds me of the bridge to Sanibel Island. Then again, Florida's probably got a 1,000 bridges that look like that.
Great fishing on Lake Erie.
Good Luck.
Brad

Thanks, that Snook made it quite a day. We were in Tampa Bay exact location is top secret ;-) , that's where I'm from and have spent all my time on the water.
There are a LOT of bridges that look like that one. It was the Howard Franklin Bridge (I-275)
vbumleg: Sorry, I missed your post. Fishing at Erie is good in the spring, but I think there are many anglers down towards Windsor area and Leamington that have better luck. It seems the walleye move in the Erieau direction. We will catch some, but June and July are fantastic. Dwain
