The Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources has offered 400 thousand dollars for the 81 acres of largely undeveloped land and lake front property. The area makes up the west side of the mouth of Elk Creek. The DCNR currently owns the adjoining property on the west boundary of the Access and The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission owns the parcel across Elk Creek, on its eastern boundary.
Girard sold the land to the state...which means a new launch facility/safe harbor may be in the works for the near future...lol I live 1 min from here all summer...im pumped!!
Good to hear. Another launch facility would be awesome. I dread dealing with the crowds at Walnut so much, that I launch at Lampe and run out around Presque Isle to get to the waters north and northwest of Walnut.
Then again, I've never been too impressed with our state when it comes to lauch facilities and I think I should reserve getting excited about it until it actually starts to take place. But I sure hope it happens though.

I was wondering if that went go through. Should benefit everyone, since DCNR has deeper pockets than Girard to improve the area. That may ease up the flow @ the Walnut launch if it's expanded.

CB & Brad,
Off Topic but a question for you guys - do you attend the boat show in Pittsburg?
Believe it it a two weekend show, FRI, SAT, SUN this weekend and next. I've not attended this show before but have some friends that will be there and am thinking of going over on Saturday.
Do they have many GREAT LAKES type boats there or is it more of an inland / river type show?
Thanks,
Steve

Stick to cleveland I always enjoy going out there...I think ive talked to you once or twice out there as well...the Pittsburgh one is ALWAYS over rated in my book...they dont have many boats that i am interested in...And nothing much more than Boston Whaler or some Grady Whites....Theres usually a few Starcraft Islanders out there if your looking to upgrade that Contender of yours...lol
Even the Cleveland boat show is lacking some boats id like to step aboard, but it still kicks Pittsburghs shows butt...(were talking about Boat Shows not Football teams here...lol)...The Cleveland one is well worth the price of admission...I dont go to the Pittsburgh Shows usually.....
Steve send me a PM id like to pick your brain on an idea of mine...think you may be interested....

Steve, The last time I attended the Pittsburgh boat show was4 years ago. Before that, it had been years since I had gone. That time I went 4 years ago, there was one Wellcraft 22ft outboard powered walkaround, a Trophy walkaround (that dealership has since closed their doors), and a Starcraft Islander. That's itas far as Erie fishing boats are concerned. The show primarily consists of bow riders and family cruisers (Sea Ray, Rinker, Stingray, etc. etc.), smaller alunimun fishing boats (Lowe, Sylvan, Starcraft, etc. etc.), PWCs and pontoon boats. Basically the stuff that people like to use on the local rivers and small lakes in this area. Now that Conneaut Lake Navigation carries Key West, I would not be surprised if there was a Key West or two there. Fox Chappel marine might have a Proline or two there since they recently started listing Proline, but I think that's theirsister dealershipthat's out your way. There's barely any dealerships around here that carry saltwater fishing boats and dealerships don't travel too far to come here.

Thanks for the info guys. The reason I'm asking is I'm now with South Shore Marine in Huron, OH full time and we are the exclusive Great Lakes stocking dealer for Carolina Classic and Contender and would also have that area for Rampage (we have a 38 Rampage customer in Erie, PA). Just wondering if it would make any sense to consider bringing a few Contenders and a 25 & 28 Carolina Classic there next year. Sounds like a double edged sword. Great Lakes fishermen from PA don't necessarily travel to go there - but there aren't many Great Lakes type boats there to look at - so who knows if it would be worth it or not??? Probably take a few years of going to determine if it were ultimately worth it or not.
Guess it will depend on what else is going on on Saturday late afternoon if I decide to make the drive over or not.

Steve, personally, I wrote the show off because of the lack of Great Lakes boats there. The only reason I went there 4 years ago was because we were at the free style MX show at the Civic Area in the afternoon, and after we left there we decided to go the several blocks over to the boat show to see what they had. If I hadn't been that close to the boat show that day, and others in the gang weren't heading over there, I probably wouldn't have gone over. While there are others in this area that are great lakes fishermen / boaters, I'd venture to say that most of them have written off the Pittsburgh boat show for the same reason I have. And I'm a boat junky.
Not trying to sway you either way (just letting you know my individual thoughts on the Pittsburgh boat show). I think if you were going to bring down some serious Offshore battle wagons as you have mentioned, you would want to somehow get the word out so that others in the area (like me) would know to stop by and check them out. Personally, I'd love to see a Carolina Classic and Contender up close. Pretty depressing for me living here in freshwater boat country when my passion is saltwater boats. I drive my wife nuts everytime we go on a trip to an area in which there are saltwater boat dealerships and I got to stop in every dealership to take a close up look at what they're selling.
One group to let know would be the "Pittsburgh Downriggers Club".

CarpetBagger - 1/23/2008 12:55 PM Brad are you a Pittsburgh downrigger?????
Not currently. I was a member at one time, but only for a couple years. I rarely made it to the meetings. Seems I always had something going on the night of the meetings. I was thinking about re-joining, but now my kids are so active in sports (game or practice practically every night), there's no way I'd be able to make it.

Steve, I see you have a Bert's custom track on your boat. I added them to my boat as soon as I got it. Bert's is nice stuff. I have Tite-loc on my small boat, and the Tite-loc is nice, but I didn't like that you needed an allen wrench to adjust the rod holder. I like the Bert's over the Tite-loc. I have the Bert's swivel downrigger bases too.

I've had and used just about everything out there. The picture here is of my old 25 Contender. I had a couple piecs of the Bert's track on that boat primarily for downrigger mounts and at the time had Vectors farther forward. Good Eye CB on the Cisco Fishing systems holder in the Bert's Track. That was actually a prototype the Cisco made for me to use in the track mount. This picture was taken in the spring of 2005 when I was waiting on my 27 Contender to get rigged. On the 27 I had 7 feet of Bert's Track. I had 10 individual Cisco holders on each side of the boat with 6" sections of the track spacers in between that I had cupholders on. VERY FUNCTIONAL setup. Cisco makes the most functional / versatile rodholders on the market that I know of and they are very heavy duty - lifetime warranty and made locally for us in Cleveland, OH.

Yeah, I recognized the Bert's tracks and just figured that's what your runnin' there Steve. Man CB, you got some good eyesight to have picked out that the rod holders were something else.
I'll have to look into those Cisco rod holders. Never heard of them before.

lol sorry there are so many great companies out there producing quality stuff for the Great Lakes, that you just dont know about...Cicso's method of up and downis very unique and is not seen on any other product ive seen before and it kinda sticks out like a sore thumb to me....its like a quick lock bike seat...you can see the lil black lever sticking up on the rod holder. They do nice very work with their stuff....
