Hey Brad - I keep my boat at Redbrook, do you have a overnight in the area anywhere? We have a house in Saybrook. I think I saw you boat in the Geneva Marina this summer. I have a 25' Grady with twin 150's and the name Triple Diamond on it.

Don't have a place up there. Wish we did. We were looking for something in the way of a trailer at a campground, but we ended up building a house down this way (east of Pittsburgh), so getting a place up Erie was put on hold. For now anyway.

Couldn't have been me at Geneva this past summer. I haven't been to Geneva-on-the-lake since '01. Back then I had a Proline 220 Cuddyfish. I used to keep myProline in the Indian Creek camping resort boat storage facility. Might get back to doing that again soon. The family loves Indian Creek. I sold my Proline in April of '02. Didn't get another Erie boat til the end of '04. The last three seasons I've just been fishing out of Erie, PA.

gwstrike, did you buy your boat from Beaver Park?

Grew up in Ohio, North Ridgeville. Usually fished out of Lorain. My parents also had a place on Catawba that we used in the summer months. I now live in Jacksonville, FL. where saltwater is in my veins. I'm glad they started this site, I can get my Lake Erie fix from time to time.

Tight Lines,

John

Brad, You might want to try camping at Louma's, it isn't as "commercial" as Indian Creek and they do have direct access to the Lake- but it is about 1/2 the price as Indian Creek. Mostly year round campers there - a lot of guys from our boat club stay there because it is reasonable and quiet. I got my boat from a guy in Port Clinton, it is a '96, but it had about 100 hours on it when I bought it. He kept it rack stored, indoors, and hired the marina to do all the maintenance. The paint wasn't even off the props yet. I guess I still think that I got a great deal. If you want to check out our area again, I will be more than happy to show you around. Bob

Pleased to see all the LE boaters on this site! I trailer my 21ft Stripper and fish the east end of the Central basin for eyes and steelhead starting with Cleveland in the spring and working our way east to Geneva in August/September. Usually try to start the season with some near shore night fishing between 185th and Eastlake. Ending the season with perch jerk'n off Fairport in the fall. Usually make a spring trip to Lake Ontario for the Kings! If anyone is interested we should be going the weekend of May23-26 launching from Olcott. Always looking for someone on LO to share reports/info with.

Enjoy the upcoming season and be safe!

Thanks Bob. Yeah, I definately want to head back over to Geneva-on-the-lake again sometime soon. There's alot to do over that way. Makes for a good time for the family. When we go to head over that way, I'll let you know. Louma's campground, is that in the Geneva area? I've never heard of it before.

You ever try the wings over at Roman's restaurant in Madison? Yeah, just thinking about those wings, I gotta make it back over that way.

Brad

Luoma's is about 3 miles East of Indian Creek on Lake Road, I think that there is a wood sign out front that says Surfer's Point and Louma's somewhere. on the property. A lot of guys from my boat club stay at the campground - all of them are real good guys. I have never been to Roman's - we normally go East because there isn't the traffic / people to contend with in Geneva on the Lake (GOTL) - Normally we go to the Crow's Nest which is on Lake Road right where route 11 dead ends into it. You probably haven't seen the lodge at the State Park yet either - they built it East of Geneva Marina and is an absolutely gorgeous place - right on the Lake. You might want to check it out for a place to stay - but book EARLY because it does get full for the summer. Bob

Clevjim - I would be very interested in going with you guys . I have fished the Niagara River in Fall for Kings, we went right between the power plants and fished below the rapids - it is really cool if you haven't tried it. I tried fishing in Olcott once or twice, but we did not do to good - only caught a couple kings and some Lake Trout. Been really wanting to catch some kings in the Lake. Do you need downriggers? Or can you use Dipsy's and down rigger rods? Bob

gwstrike...after typing two responses and blowing them away lets see if I can get it right this time! Believe we have fished the same section of the Niagara river in '06. We went out with Dennis from FishnNiagara, he owns a bait shop in Fort Erie. Launched on the Canadian side almost opposite the Art Park on the US side. Did catch a few Kings, was a great day for the Saturday after Thanksgiving.

This will be our third spring trip to LO and Olcott. Just rec'd confirmation from Fisherman's Choice cottages that we are good for May 23-26. Last year we did real good, 9 kings in one morning. We typically fish from sun up until 1:00, come in to clean fish, eat supper and head back out for a short evening bite. Typically a couple of my sons are with me, my nephew and my brother-in-law for one day with his 2 sons. Typically we make it a men only weekend. Usually the Sabres are in the playoffs and we watch the game one evening, drink a few beers and do a lot of yelling at the TV. Last year I puchased two Cannon down riggers, still learning how to fish them. Our best luck has been on dipseys. In the spring with the colder water the fish are not down as deep so dipseys work for us. Three items have helped our catch; DepthRaider for temp and speed at the ball, a better quality fish finder(purchased a Furuno 620 to handle the deeper LO water) and a hand held GPS to mark the catches. I can send you some pictures via email.

If you are interested would be glad to have the company on the lake. Launch facility is excellent in Olcott...fish cleaning station, lines aren't long, friendly staff. Just a great place to launch from. There are plenty of places to stay in Olcott; camp ground, cabins and motel. If you need the name/numbers for places post your question on the GLAngler LO site and I'm sure the locals will provide you with the info you need. The place I stay at has another cabin.

Keep in touch...JIM

See you are familiar with Geneva on the Lake...great place in the summer! I'd recommend Piero's Italian rest. next to Edies. Cash only, prepares the meals to order. Very good authentic meals.

If you are interested, Sunday Feb. 24 there is a Salmon seminar show I believe in Lockport that I'm planning on attending. One of the clubs on LO is putting it on. Will be some good seminars, more stuff to buy. Feel free to ride along with us. A one day trip.

Fee free to email me....JIM

Jim - sounds just like us, I am not sure exactly who would be going - probably my brother and at least one of my sons (the 10 year old) - he's pretty gung ho about fishing and hunting. I had down riggers on my aquasport CC. They were nice but I just didn't use them very much - except as pole holders. I am OK on Electronics on the boat - I have a chartplotter with a blue water cartridge - so it has structures and underwater ridge lines and a good depth finder. - It sounds like we come from the same family - I would have a similar load of people except my nephew has been activated and is probably heading to Iraq / Kuwait with the USCG. We used to have a men's family weekend also - kind of got out of the habit though. I would be interested in going to Lockport with you for the seminar. I will email my phone # to you. My boat is a 25' CC - will I have any problems at the ramp in Olcott? I certainly not against having a few beers and yelling at the TV. Just like to have a good time catch some fish but above all - have a good time! Talk to you Bob

gwstrike...rec'd your PM with the numbers. Will give you a call. The ramp at Olcott should easly handle your 25ft boat. I have seen some reports that like all the Great Lakes, Ontario has seen a drop in water level. Maybe some of the LO guys would respond to your question. If not here post the question on the GLAngler site, specifically the LO Fishing Reports.

I live on Sterling State Park off of Brest Bay in MI waters. We are out on the water 2 - 4 days a week all spring and summer long. Trailer the boat from Lorain to Erieau.

I used to live on Kelleys Island, spent years fishing for pickerel and perch on the lake.

Live in Atlanta now and fish the Gulf of Mexico out of Apalachicola Florida.

I live in Dearborn MI; launch out of Erie Metropark (Gibralter MI) and fish the Detroit River (start with White Bass run in spring) and Lake Erie the rest of the season (through Fall Perch) and of course Walleye in between. We fish both Michigan and Ohio waters and primarily drift fish for Walleyes; casting Erie Dearies and drifting a crawler harness. I know trolling is more effective but drifting is more fun when we're catching them. I have a 2002 GW Tournament 223 with a 225hp Yamaha.

Launch out of Fairport harbor, about 25 minutes east of Cleveland. I head out to the western basin at least two times a year.
