I do Marblehead for perch for 2 weeks in the fall mostly but go to Presque Isle for great bass fish'n on the weekends. Been doing the Sundusy thing since I was a kid in the 50's still love it up there but fishing the Keys in the summer and our Drag Racing takes away most of my weekend fishing. We are near the Ohio line between Pgh and Erie off of I 80 either way Erie or Marblehead isn't too far.....
Hey Russh thought you were going to meet me at the OV ?

I fish Erie about 3 days a week on average once the fishing gets hot. We fish Port Clinton from late April till early June. Then fish out of Conneaut, OH and the Erie, PA area the rest of the summer....Catch lots and lots of walleyes...
I have to agree the forum is a great addition to THT...too much salt talk in the above forums if ya ask me. Theres alot of other forums out there for the Erie guys though... http://www.WalleyeCentral.com is usually pretty good for talk around the western and central basins of Erie. Seeing a few more around as well http://www.FishErie.com is the Erie, PA site, and http://www.GreatLakesGuideOnline.com is one i just found a week or so ago that has discussion forums for all the Great Lakes...Still THT is prolly one of my favs..
How's it been launching at Conneaut? The last time I launched there (I want to say it was '01), I had a hard time getting my boat off the trailer due to the low water levels. I remember there were several trailers in the lot that had broken axles because they went over the edge of the ramp trying to float their boats off the trailer. Is it any better these days?
I haven't fished Ohio since '01. I sold my previous Erie boat in April of '02, bought a new one at the very end of '04 (too late in the year to fish), and I've only been fishing out of PA since. Back in the mid to late 90's I was keeping my boat at Geneva-on-the-lake Ohio. I think the fishing was better east of Geneva-on-the-lake, but there was so much for the family to do there. It was a compromise.
Man I can't wait to get the boat out.

CarpetBagger - 1/19/2008 4:23 PM Hey Brad....Nice talking on here instead of the "other crowd" Um conneaut is nice they actually dropeed in plates on the launches. No more problems launching its actually nice aside from the size of the launch... Working on gettin a captains license and am eyeing up that Steiger 26' once i get to that point.....
Are you going to the classes for the captains license? That's something I would like to do one of these days. I keep telling myself at the end of the season that I'm going to attend the classes over the winter time. But my two Son's (ages 9 and 12) keep me running around so much with the sports they are involved in that I don't have time for much anything else.
About that Steiger. I believe I saw Eyehooker's on the water last year. Didn't get out on the water too much last year. Like I said above, the kids sports, on top of that, had a house built, sold my old house and moved. All told I only saw about 6 or 7 times on the water last year. But one of the times I was just north of Walnut, I spotted a pilot house with from what I recall had dark green hull sides. Was kind of off in the distance. PM Eyehooker and he said that was him. Those Steigers are beautiful boats. You guys are a bad influence. You got me looking at them now too. Just looking on-line and dreamin though. If I had a $ for every minute I spend on-line looking at boats I'd be a millionare. Sticking with what I've got for now though. Gotta take it easy on the finances for a while.
Glad to hear Conneaut's good again. Maybe I'll take a ride over that way once or twice this upcoming year. Not that far of a drive. Is Wally still over there at Snug Harbor? By the way, what's a one year NR Ohio license going for these days? Last time I bought one (I think it was '01) it was $24 from what I recall.

Living in SW PA I fish on Erie about 6 times a year exclusively for walleyes start in the early April with a trip to Port Clinton, then fish a few tournaments around home and then hit the Geneva-Ashtabula- Conneaut areas during the summer months when the winds are favorable.
I grew up in Buffalo and on Lake Erie. Our family has a cottage on the canadian shore where I cut my teeth in the sport and boats. But I've been in college in Maryland & Delaware area (undergrad/grad) for 6 years and just moved to Cape cod, so I don't get to fish it as much as I used too.....but it's still my favorite body of water!
Eyehooker and myself are neighbors up in Erie...Were good friends too...lol
That being said i believe he has the ONLY Steiger in Erie, PA yep has the dark green sides. Fished on it a few times and its a great platform and feels much much bigger than 23ft. Simply awesome. The 26 is just a monster. Im between that boat and a 28 Albemarle once the time comes...its basically the outboard vs diesel inboard decision....For arguments sake i like the Steiger better...lol
As far as fishing goes...I generally fish about 40-60 Times a year for walleyes out of Walnut or Conneaut. We do a brief stay in Port Clinton too in the spring.
Walleye fishing is simply my whole reason for living...lol You can see my fishing reports always on www.Walleyecentral.com and I think im gonna be using the other one www.GreatLakesGuideOnline.com too once they finish the site. I dont usually post too much on that "Other Board" we are on, simply cause its not really a lake fishing or walleye fishing crowd. But you probaly will see some reports on the new THT Board here as well.
Hope to bump into you this year...Look for my Trophy around Walnut. Its the one with the Honda 9.9 w/ TR1 AP on the back...thats about the only way to tell it from the mass amount of these in the area....lol
Carpetbagger,
I might need some pointers this summer for fishing on the big lake. I'm in Edinboro and just getting into lake fishing. I was going to get out for early steelhead @ the mouth of Walnut, but that work thing got in the way.

Ill put some reports on here once the time comes. Check out those other sites above too they are great resources for the lakes as well. Lots of good guys on all the boards...
Fishing out of walnut is pretty brainless anymore once its in full swing the earlier months can be tricky...We night fish until about late june and catch some nice fish around walnut and elk pulling stick baits very very slow off boards...Then we switch it up to dipsys and worm harnesses during the day and its lights out on the walleye fishing
I honestly cant remember too many days last summer when we were not returning with limits of walleyes. Its pretty much everyone does well anymore...theres alot of fish out there...
Carpetbagger..tried walnut a couple times this year in July managed limits both times but had to wade thru a lot of sheep and white bass. Made for a long day of setting lines, had a lot better results all summer of Ashtabula and Geneva.
Looks like there are more Great Lakes members on THT than a few years ago when they had a Great Lakes forum that got canned after there were hardly any posts. I fish Lake Erie from April 1 to mid November. Starting in April west of the islands fishing anywhere from Anchor Point to Marblehead. After mid May I'll be running primarily from Huron / Sawmill Creek. Will make a few trips east of Cleveland this year - Fairport, Geneva, and the MWC Tournament out of Dunkirk, NY. Also hope to make it over to Erie PA for their summer tournament. Should be running a demo 23T Contender for the trailer boat this year and will be running some trips for our customers on our Carolina Classics, Rampages, and Scouts.
Hey there capt. Steve....Glad to see your making your presence known on this part...Look out in that Erie, PA tourney...I might be fishing in it this year...lol
Bridgeman...Ive been fishing outa Walnut for like 15 years now and am fairly good with the area. You can get into alot of junk if you go too shallow or troll too slow...
There is like a 1 week transistion where the fish move from 20-35ft out into the deep stuff. Another issue is how fast you troll this area...Generally speaking I pull harnesses pretty quick like 1.8-2.5mph on the GPS... keeps alot of the junk off and gets me to cover alot of area...If im pullin spoons or sticks im rarely under 2mph.
I rely heavily on electronics as well. A quality fishfinder and chartplotter are excellent additions to any boat. Mark the fish get your stuff in their face then swing around and come right back through the same spot...its a bulletproof method...You nail em one day go right back to the same spot and do it again... They like to move alot through the water colum too so you definatly want to know what you are looking at on a fishfinder. On my Furuno 600L I can almost pick out walleyes when they come through.
I rely alot on my Honda 9.9 and my TR-1 autopilot combo. I can control my speed within 10rpms...These very small advantages definatly help...
Last year was probaly our best year for size and quantity of fish. Boated hundreds of walleyes. This year should even be better with most fish gonna be in that 20"-25" range... I am not the greatest, but I never seem to have a problem loading up the boat...lol Im just a FANATIC about Walleye fishing Lake Erie.
If you notice that some of those pictures above my favorite time to fish is before the sun comes up...We generally go out in the dark....Ive had mornings we take 3/4 of the limit before 7am then struggle to get the last few...the morning bite out of Walnut Creek is second to none in my book...
Carpetbagger
Thanks for the info. Looking to get a Garmin 300C fishfinder in the spring. I have a rail mount for my handheld gps. Not looking to be a diehard, but don't want go out there blind.

I have been a lurker on tht for a couple of months now, and finally registered when I saw the great lakes forum. I get out on the western basin as much as possible. We just traded in our 1999 wellcraft martinique 240, and purchased a 2007 sea pro 220cc at the boat show. cant wait to get it out on the water. The cruiser was a very nice boat, but it didn't fit our fishing needs. We kept our cruiser at Breat bay marina, but will probably trailer our center console and launch out of sterling state park, bolles harbour, and luna pier. two more months and we will be hammering the walleyes in Maumee bay. We also make a couple of trips out to the Islands (kelly and bass) each year. I will post some pics of the new ride when I pick it up in two months.
Live in Leamington. Fish western basin Canadian side for walleye (pickerel) and yellow perch from early spring till the snow flies. In July and August, we fish out of Wheatley and Erieau for rainbow/steelhead. We fish from a 24 foot center console with a 250 hp Yamaha and a 8hp kicker for trolling.
