Default Tavernier Creek vs Snake Creek?

Staying at a house on Plantation Key (bayside) in a couple of weeks. What is oceanside access like via Tavernier Creek vs. Snake Creek. The house is probably a little closer to Tavernier Creek.

Tavernier Creek is shallow on the oceanside of the fixed bridge, but should be no problem for an outboard boat without a tower.

Snake Creek is much deeper with a drawbridge, but you have about 25 feet of vertical clearance even with the bridge down.

What kind of boat are you bringing?

You wouldn't have any trouble at all with Tavernier Creek, use whichever one is easiest.

Thanks, but what about time wise. Is one route faster than the other, coming out of Plantation Key? Is Tavernier Creek a "no wake zone"?

Yes, until the bridge. I use snake creek because of the clearance of my riggers. If you are planning on going down the keys to an area to fish, use snake creek. If strainght out use the closest to you. Sandbar, go down bay and use Whale harbor channel. I barely fit under whale harbor channel at low tide, at high tide have to hold everything down and barely fit, but I have huge outriggers. Your boat will fit under any. If the wind is blowing hard from the east, which it has been lately, go out the closest channel to you destination, you will thank yourself for that.

You can run in Tavernier Creek going from bay to ocean until you get to the houses, then it's no wake until about 1/4 mile past the bridge on the ocean side. Snake Creek is no-wake until just oceanside of the draawbridge.

The big question is, where is the house you're renting?

Tavernier will probably be quicker. Run through toilet seat channel and through suicide cut and you're there.

Don't know if you're into lobster or not but if you are, try bully-netting in the Snake Creek channel from right after sundown until you get your limit. That should take about an hour or so. The shorelines on the bay side are loaded.
