Beautiful spot. There are streets and a FEW autos but you can't drive in town. Walk or bike. Cisterns for water. No crime, no begging or vendors or any of that stuff. Marsh Harbour is just a short boat or ferry ride for major needs. Be there in 8 weeks. tom

Was there 8 years ago. I think there were 2 vehicles on the entire island, both emergency vehicles. Most people use boats or golf carts to get around. Loved it! Wonderful and friendly people there.

How about fishing what is it like in the sea of Abaco ? Is it loaded with snapper & Grouper ? How deep I saw it had average depth of 18ft so is it calm waters like flats or more like Tampa Bay ? I find little about fishing in and around Abaco just some Bonefishing guides & Billfish charters. With a low population I would think fishing pressure would be very lite unless it never had a good amount of fish to start with or commercial fishing harvest is the way in of life there.

You have to understand that the locals have been fishing that area for over a hundred years in order to feed themselves and their families - just like the early settlers in the Tampa Bay area did, and that plus the almost uncontrolled use of fish traps - well, it's a beautiful location and there are some areas in the Sea of Abaco where there is some decent bottom fishing, but not everwhere. The best fishing in that area is found offshore trolling for pelegics.

stayed there a week last year, loved it. Caught a lot of small stuff inshore, yellowtails, little grouper, trigger fish etc, couldn't locate any big grouper mainly because it was rough as hell most of the time we were there and the reef was kind of scary to be around. Offshore seems to be the ticket if the weather cooperates. The one thing I learned is that I'll bring as many frozen ballyhoo as I can stick in a cooler with me. I caught nothing on aritificials, not sure if it was the time of year or not, but as soon as we got some hoo we got covered up in wahoos. Half day charters were pretty reasonable and they put fish on the dock, local skippers were pretty cool people

we stay at the ocean frontier and have a blast. great offshore fishing is just minutes away and the reef 25 yards off the beach is filled with every fish in the aquarium. then of course there is nippers, probably one of the best beach bars in the in this hemisphere.
as sublime mentioned. bring ballyhoo and when you think you have enough, stuff in a couple dozen more. we got into a school of "everything" last year and did not have a natural bait on board (left the bait cooler on the dock) ended up grabbing 4 nice dolphin to 25lbs on the first pass but could not hook up a tuna to save our lives. off course mister marlin makes an appearence but by then our dolphin were stiff and he wasn't going for the artificials. all in all we got 8 dolphin and had the greenhorns on board got to see what it's like to see tuna bust'n. they were hangin on the little piece of driftwood that had a bit weed around it. the whole mess wasn't more than 2' x 2' in area but there was a hundred fish busting on it! all of this action was about 8 miles offshore.

you can troll the edge of the reef for grouper and be in 50 to 100 feet of water or head offshore in search of birds or weedlines and be in thousands of feet of water. depth is not the issue in the bahamas it is the structure, find the weedlines, eddies and rips and you will find the fish!
