SeaSwirl 2601 WalkAround and the E-TEC 250 I wrote a bit about this yesterday on someone else's thread, but am new to this site and cannot find any responses today, not even the two I did receive yesterday. So, I apologize about having to rewrite. (Thanks to those who did respond . you know who you are.) This time I am writing under a new "thread." Thanks.
I am looking at buying a SeaSwirl 2601 Walk-Around, and am thinking about powering it with a Evinrude 2-stroke 250 E-TEC. My primary use will be trolling (around 6 kts) in lee Hawaiian waters. I anticipate trolling for 5 to 6 hours at a time, and there will be very little full-throttle for me, maybe out and in about 30 minutes each way. My questions are:
1. Is this engine going to be enough for this boat? SeaSwirl says 225hp is "standard" (minimum) for a boat this size. I do not want to underpower, but the 250 is as large an E-TEC as Evinrude makes. I like what I have heard about E-TEC.
2. Will the engine run smooth at the low trolling speeds?
3. What kind of fuel consumption can I reasonably expect? At both the trolling and run speeds?
4. Any suggestions that the 250 E-TEC might not be a good idea?
5. I understand that there is only one Evinrude dealer in Honolulu. What happens if that one, which has been around 40+years I understand, should go out of business?
Thanks.
