Default North Georgia

Hello all...lurker for two years.

Came up from La. about a year ago...lost my 17.5 mckee waypoint via katrina. Just bought the new 185 mckee bay classic DF140 and take ownership this weekend. I miss the big water of La...but will keep the rig at lan mar on the trailer. Need some new friends to disover four keys:

1: stripers...took me a year to limit on reds with little to no help in the ms sound...want to figure fresh water...hear they are big. Bought a lowarnce package with LEI topo would like some help. I know how to catch bait and throw a cast net.

2: salt...my boat is easy to trailer...advice on savannah or Lower Alabama?

3: Like to Fly fish...and can catch

4: clubs...or networking

There is a good saltwater fishing club in Atlanta called the Atlanta Saltwater Sportsman Club. You can visit the website at www.ASWSC.org. There is much to do with you boat in the salt between the GA and AL coasts. Great inshore fishing for reds, trout and flounder from Savannah to St. Marys (you can also throw in Charleston). Nearshore during the summer you have kings, tarpon and more. As for Lake Lanier stripers we have caught a few with guides slow trolling live shiners on weighted line. Fly fishing I can offer no assistance. Hope this helps a bit. Good luck.

Fishnpete, welcome to the area.

There are a number of us who frequent Lake Lanier...Bob's Cay is our striper expert, Bokat is our saltwater guru, JupiterEdge is rapidly getting a garage full of fishing gear, JiminGa is taking professional fishing lessons, and me - these guys would probably tell you that I'm good at buying and selling Gradys.

Keep an eye on the Lake Lanier forum..we generally do a good job of letting each other know when we will be out on the lake. Call us on the radio, and stop by and introduce yourself in person...

Welcome Fishnpete. Parthery had it right, check the Lanier Fishing thread in this forum. I got on the radio and met JupiterEdge (Jim) last weekend. The Atlanta SWFC is the only club I know of. All us ATL boys and girls should plan on going to one of the ASWFC outings to the coast. I want to learn the striper stuff also. I fly fish (Sage) for trout when I can't find anything else to do.

I guess being around the lake for a long time can make anyone an expert???

Welcome to the Lake and North Ga. You will have a lot to see and do. As mentioned before check out the Lanier thread that now is 28 pages long. Also check out this site for current fishing report:

Welcome, fishnpete. All good info above. I don't know about Parthery's assesment of my salt water guru status(Thanks for the compliment, Brian) but I am a member of the salt water club mentioned above, as is fishdancer and Parthery. Fishdancer had a very nice presentation on fishing for King Macks at our last meeting. He fishes the SKA tournaments. Once again, welcome aboard and I'll look for you on the Lanier post.

Thanks to all for the welcome! I picked up my boat and put in a vans tavern. I secured storage at Van tavern boat yard. I had my 12 year old so he did not want to stay on the water that long. All my gear is pretty much saltwater type...so I stpped at Hammonds and picked up some tackle. Going out early tommorow before the weather changes.

Fishnpete, I'll be out tomorrow before the weather turns, as well.

Have a trim tab switch to repair but after that, I'll give a call on the VHF...
