Look to keep my boat in the Cape Canaveral area on my own trailer.. Id like a marina that has access to the water, or very close. Anysuggestions? can be 30 min north or south of the area and that would be fine! Thanks guys! any imput on certain marinas prices would be nice too, thanks!
PS. Boat is a 1985 23' seacraft sceptre. thanks again
There is a storage place about 100 yards away from the boat ramps that allows you to store your boat on the trailer. I don't know the name of the place. Additionally, I believe you have to bring your truck, hook up the boat and trailer, tow it to the ramp, etc.
The other marinas located at Canaveral are either inside or outside storage w/o trailer.
If you are looking for rack storage, try Cape Marina, Sunrise Marina and Scorpions Newport Marina. If you have a trailer, drive around Merrit Island and look for lots with boats. There are a few places in Merrit Island with water and electric. Thats 20 minutes from the ramps in Port Canaveral. Can't help you with any of the names, but it's worth a look.

However it's very important to note that these are on the 'wrong' side of the Canaveral lock if you are primarily interested in heading offshore. Traversing the lock can be 15-20 minutes best case and 1 hour+ if there is barge traffic. And the lock has somewhat limited hours so you have to plan around lock availability. Since I'm primarily interested in offshore, I would not consider keeping my big boat on the 'wrong' side of the lock. YMMV.
The Canaveral Lock opens at 8am every morning ...on a good day...!
I have pulled up to the locks 9 times out of 10 and gotten thru in a few minutes ... I have also pulled up with a livewell full of baits and the lock operator came out and told us over a megaphone that the lock was "broke" and it would take 3 hours for the guy to arrive from Clewiston to fix it! .. .there are also days when the lock operator is either sleeping or drunk or whatever and we never got thru!
The places listed on this post already on the OTHER side of the lock are your best bet if you want to be right on the water .... there are a bunch of other places you can store your boat on the trailer though ...
I've been at Scorpion's, now Ocean Club, with 3 boats. If you're going to launch from the same place and can afford to keep the boat on a rack, it's the best solution. And there are 3 soon to be 4 different facilities so I would think prices will stay competitive
If you are looking to keep it on the trailer try Island Bait and Tackle on Merritt Island 321-454-9221 (dirt parking area a little run down, but cheap) also if you want a more upscale place Classic Window Tinting 321-452-2611 (very secure, right across the street from Brevard Sherriffs office, nice gravel lot, etc...). The lock opens at 6am and closes at 9:30pm. I have lived here 10 years and fish 1-2 times per month offshore and I personnaly would rather deal with the lock than the boat ramp (especially on a nice weekend!), but I keep my boat on a lift at my house. If you are going to trailer your boat anyway I would think either of these places would suit your needs both are right next to the beeline and are convenient to Kelly park or the Port. Storing your boat at the port is $$$$.
I've been in the Port Canaveral marinas for 5 years now. I know the locks are open early but in the time I've been there they have been shut for several months for damage or maintenance. I would pull it to the launch near Scorpions so I would avoid the locks all together. It is right next door to Scorpions Marina.

* 95% of the time I'm going offshore
* Over the last 10-12 years or so, there have been a couple times when the lock was closed for MONTHS at a time
* A couple times I have been scarred for life by thunderstorms while waiting for close to an hour (on the West side) to pass thru the lock to get back to my marina.
If I owned a house on the water on Merritt Island I guess I would learn to deal with the lock, but if I'm storing the boat at a marina and 95% of my boat usage is offshore, then I want to keep/launch the boat on the PC side of the lock.
I agree with you guys about dealing with the locks, but this guy said he wanted to store his boat on the trailer. I just don't see paying $$$$$ to keep it on the trailer 5 minutes closer to the boat ramp. Now, if he wants to shell out the 300+ dollars/month to keep it on the rack I would go with one of the marinas in the port (Sunrise, Scorpion, or the new one). You also have to consider the extra money for fuel if you have to fill up at Scorpion, Cape Marina, etc... vs. filling up at the gas station.
