Default Fla. Lovers beach

Wife and I saw the ten best Fla beaches show on the Travel channel the other night. She liked LB the best, I think its because of the name. LOL. Any comments? We want to get away for some alone time and some inshore charter fishing. Maybe 4-5 days total. Not looking for clubs. Just sight seeing and good food and fishing. Thanks.

Sombrero Beach in Marathon (FL Keys) is super nice...and the great Keys fishing is right there. Totally non-commericial beach, in a neighborhood. A guy on here rents a house nearby...

Ft. Lauderdale beach is also very nice, but more commericial, though not like Panama City... No inshore fishing though.

Check out Siesta Key. Great beach, great food and a great area. Inshore fishing is excellent. There are a lot of good inshore charters available too. See the links below.

I've seen this show many times, and it seems different beaches make the list every year. I've been to a lot of Florida beaches, and with few exceptions, there's no such thing as a bad beach!

Any Beach is a good beach, however, I prefer the beaches south of The Cape, and south of the Tampa area. This is where the clear water kicks in. Not talking about the Panhandle, they are nice too, but cold in winter. I really like the west coast for great beaches but if a city is what you like, and a some what private beach(not really), my favorite is Lauderdale by the Sea at the sea end of Commercial Blvd in Ft Lauderdale. Most of the hotels are older but very usable, lots of restaurants to walk to and it is close to my favorite restaurant, the Mai Kai, if it is still there after Wilma. Lauderdale by the Sea is relatively, it seems, safe a night or most of the time, I believe years ago all the residents and businesses voted to pay more taxes to have better police enforcement, but I could be wrong.

Check this place out in the FL Keys. http://www.whitesandsinn.com/

I recommend rooms #6, #7 or #8 (of 8). It's on Grassy Key just a little to the north of Sombrero beach and Marathon. It feels remote and secluded yet it's close to decent restaurants and stuff to do. Plus it has it's own little stretch of private beach.

Siesta Key and Longboat Key (Sarasota) are really nice too. I live there, so we usually go elsewhere when we want to "get away".
