Default Moving to SW Florida - Marina Suggestions

Wife and I tired of cold and snow and are moving to the land of sunshine. We have a 36 Luhrs that will come with us and we are looking for a nice marina or 2 around Burnt Store area. We know of the marina at Burnt Store and it is very nice. Just looking for other options within a resonable drive.

We will be new to the area so any help in neighborhoods, activities, fishing or cruizing spots will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks ahead of time Fred

Too bad you are looking south of me. They are selling a rack space in Nokomis, FL at Gulf Harbor Marina. Very close to the Venice inlet (3/4 mile).

My boat is in my garage, so I do not have that problem.

i boat out of Burnt Store and can't say enough good things about the marina. I would ask you how much boating you have done in SW Florida and if you know favorite places you like to visit. (restaurants on the water, beaches, etc). there are so many neat places to visit and explore you may want get some experience in the area before deciding upon a particular marina. Good luck !!!

dmarcian,
We have never boated in SW Florida. Looking forward to a change of pace. We have boated in the Chesapeake Bay my whole time boating. Have used the boat offshore a couple dozen times. We bought our boat in Stuart Fl. last year and brought it up last March. That was a great trip... Burnt Store seems to be a great Marina but I hear tell of all the Florida Marinas going condo and it has me worried. We are buying a home in the Lakes and want a marina close. Really do want to learn the area, restaurants, islands to anchor and nice places to cruise to for weekends and extented stays. Any info anyone can provide would be great.

Wow, that's pretty far north. Are you sure it doesn't snow up there?

I was just in BS lakes on friday. Nice area.
Have you looked into finding a canal homeowner that will rent you dock space?
One more thing, Charlotte Harbor has a lot of water...most of it is 6 inches to two feet deep. I dropped down from a Trojan to a Whaler (18 foot )when I moved here.

flatwater,

I talked to a boat salesman named Mike? (not completely sure of his name now) who lives and boated (thirty something foot carver) in the Riverview area (just south of Tampa). He told me that he and his boating friends were always boating down to the Burnt store area and finally moved their boats to Burnt Store Marina. We are going down next week (with friends) and my wife and I are choosing which restaurants/beaches to take our friends to because there are so many. I have not heard anything about Burnt Store going condo. I have a condo in Burnt Store and dry store my 23 foot scout there for convenience. There are a lot of marinas around, both large and small, but none nearly as close as Burnt Store. There is a fairly big one on Pine Island which I hear has attractive slip rates. There are also several on the way to Englewood, but they are likely a 45 minute drive for you.
