Default Marathon Boatel Recomendations?

Planning a dolphin trip in May. Would appreciate any recommendations for reasonable accomodations with dockage for 2-3 nights over a weekend. Am familiar with Boot Key and Faro Blanco but the resort has been closed for several years for Hurricane renovations. Not really looking for a "resort" a smaller place thats clean and safe would be fine. Nearby dockage prefered.

Thanks

Glenn

For a Boatel Faro Blaco is it, and they got wacked with Wilma. I stay a little more up the keys in Upper Matacumbe at a place aclled White Gate Court ( www.whitegatecourt.com) They are all little cabanas, pets welcome, private ramp.(FWD highly recommended) free trailer storage, bay side with docks, very pretty and well maintained. The rates keep going up every year though like everywhere else. Unit #2 rocks and is by far the biggest and best, worth the extra dough.

I have stayed for years at the Edgewater Lodge on Long Key they can be found on the web.
They got hit pretty hard from Wilma and lost all docks and water in some rooms, but, but were rebuilding them and all rooms were rentable now according to the last e-mail I recieved from the owners. This is a basic, quiet, place but the best of both worlds, about 15 miles from Marathon, and Islamorada. Gas just around the corner, easy access to reef or offshore and Florida Bay and great sunsets.

I can't help out too much here. The comments about lost docks from Wilma is true in Key West. I went and checked out a hotel in K.W. a few weeks ago for someone in a Thread about 10 below this...their rooms were trashed and lost the dock. I found another place next door that was ok though. YOU NEED TO CALL ANYPLACE YOU WANT TO STAY AND ASK ABOUT DOCKS! I'll be headed up the Keys on Friday. If you want me to swing into a specific place and check out the dock or anything let me know.

If a hotel works for you, there is a Holiday Inn right at the entry road to Key Colony Beach in Marathon. It's on the ocean side. I stayed there 1 night while waiting on a duplex, and they have dockage and a Tiki Bar. Not like having your own cottage, but just throwing out ideas.

If you're interested in a weekly house rental with a dock, check out my website (www.vrbo.com/70014). Rates are posted and I offer a 10 per cent discount to THT er's. Jim

JuniorBaiter has a great idea. I don't know why I didn't think of it. His looks really nice and the area it is in is beautiful. Sombraro Beach is by far the NICEST beach in the Keys, and from driving through the neighborhood, it looks to be one of the safer/nice neighborhoods down here. I'm not sure exactly where his canal hits open water, but from what I could tell, the main canal seemed to have a nice deep, marked run into the Ocean. I'd sure be much happier with my boat at a dock behind a house I was in than a motel marina... My offer still stands to drive by and take a look for ya. Just let me know by tomorrow night.

Thanks for the offer Jeff.

Had a look at Juniors listing. Familiar with the neighborhood. Great area and great price. If I can swing a week his unit would be perfect. Edgewater Lodge looks just about perfect for a shorter stay. Thanks to all.

Don't know if they will just do a weekend, but they are VERY easy to work with, we have booked through them about 15 years in a row now.

I'll be staying at the Royal Hawaiian late January. Never been there before. Dockage about 5' from room door, minutes off Vaca Cut. Rooms are reported to be basic, but clean. Reasonable price, no extra charge for dockage or trailer.

If interested, they have a site www.Roval Haw, blah blah.

Comments?

I have a place listed here on THT that's half way between Marathon and Key West on Cudjoe Key (mm 23) http://www.thehulltruth.com/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=72059&start=1

Try Duck Key Realty. Hawks Cay is a fabulous resort on Duck Key. Duck Key Realty offers some efficiency conds which are owned but rented by their owners. They're usually about $100 a night. That's pretty reasonable since the Hawks Cay rentals are 2 or 3 times that. Be sure to ask about the condos near the fuel dock. Boat dockage is separate but very nice.
